VIN - Body Tag correlation?

Hey folks,

Brad was kind enough to decode my tag in the thread I have for my Corsa restore, but I have a couple of questions....

In the below photos you can see that both the VIN and the Body Tag have the "9" and "64" stamps. How common is this stamping?

Also, the VIN says "CHEVROLET DD" on the top. ALL the others i have seen are just "CHEVROLET" Any idea what the "DD" indicates (Dealer demo?)

Also Brad indicated that the TAG shows build sequence # 148 but the VIN translates to #1448 as I see it. Am I missing something?

Would this sequence number be for just the LA plant or total production sequence?

I am putting together a history and process folder for this car and would like to be sure I capture the data correctly.
If it actually is 1965 car #148 in production, I may just have to redo it as bought as opposed to doing it up "my way".

DD was "Delivery Date" and as part of the warranty the dealer was supposed to stamp the date of delivery to the customer. Very few dealers ever stamped those tags.

The last numbers of the VIN shows the total Corvair sequence in numerical order for that year but the Body Tag indicates the number of those specific models built that year at that plant so the two won't match up.

Awesome!! Thanks for that clarification. so the 148 and 1448 was just a cool coincidence...

so that stamp indicates that this 1965 car was delivered to the customer 9/64? the same month it was built?

EDIT:

I just noticed that the date code area on your body tag (upper left corner) reads "915". That is usually a month such as 01, 02, 03 followed by an A,B, C, D or E.

example 01D = fourth week of January, 04A= first week of May, etc.

I don't recall seeing one with 3 numbers. Am I reading that correctly?

Yes you are seeing that correctly. You noted that same thing on the build thread for this car.

I saw your post on Corvair Center. You're confusing me with Brad but no harm. Hopefully someone over on CC can give some insight to the "915" date code on the body tag. Like Brad, there's a few guys over there that eat, sleep and drink Corvair data all day long.
