I almost let myself get sucked into finishing this project and flying it, but my better sense
prevailed and I tore it apart so as not to kill someone else. It might make a great airboat project for someone though. It is called a "Rinker Redrive", developed by one of our corvair friends, Bud Rinker. It consists of using a V W Transporter gear reduction unit so that one can use a full length prop, but still have the engine running at optimum RPM. The problem, IMHO, is that ball bearings are used and not tapered rollers, which would handle the massive thrust required for a prop. At any rate, it's nicely done, and deserves a place in the "Hall of Infamy".......
