Small Fan is it a Yenko Stinger Fan?

Post by VOLKSWAGNUT »

Just curious, as I've stumbled across a smaller Corvair Fan. Is 9 1/2 diameter.
Is this a special Yenko Stinger Fan, or some HP hop up idea from the aftermarket?

If you know what it is, does it help with acceleration, just due to less mass, and less drag?
Seems logical, but the strock 11 inch mag fan is light. I think it only drags a few HP at higher rpms. So whats the point? A sales gimmick?
The small fan obviously has less volume, but with a gap from the small fan to the large original opening, does this cause any turbulance that effects cooling greatly?
If I were to use it, its not for a full body Corvair, so starvation of available air isnt an issue.
Id really like to hear the pros/cons of those who know what it is. Im looking to pick up some 1/8 mile speed, and cut down on 70mph, fan noise.

its a common mod to cut down the stock fan. it helps acceleration cuz it moves less air @ higher rpms. a cut down fan is not good for a street car that runs @ slow speeds or in hot weather. its pretty much a race mod where the engine runs @ high rpm.

it *may* be ok for your volksrod - if you drive when its cool out & dont need alot of cooling @ low speeds & you dont sit in traffic idleing alot. you can try it - but watch your head & oil temps cuz they will suffer.

stage 2 & stage 3 stingers had them when sold. theres no way to tell if the cut down fan was from a stinger or just a cut down original cuz all cut down fans are just cut down originals.
