UNSAFE is Back !
UNSAFE is Back !
Guys - Sorry to be absent for so long but something came up in my life that I had to address.
In a word D.I.V.O.R.C.E.
Not a surprise but still gotta deal with it.
Not sure what effect it will have on getting to Iowa for the convention ? - and I may even have to sell my beater Corvair !
Wife values the Vair at 7000 grand and my Vette at 11
I will be catching up on PMs and posting more later today.

Sorry to hear that UNSAFE. I hope you don't have to sell the Vair.
I'm glad to see you're back.

Re: UNSAFE is Back !
The only sad part will be if I don't get to take my Vair to the convention !
I will likely be there regardless -- Hoping Matt Nall shows up too
Been considering selling the vair for a few years anyway and if I can get it to the midwest one more time I will leave it there.
Been married almost 16 years this time and the divorce has been pending for over 15 years - do the math
I look at it more as an opportunity than a setback
Much of what I say is tongue in cheek humor .
I'd sell the beater Vette before the Vair anyday - But neither for what the wife thinks they're worth !!!!!!

Re: UNSAFE is Back !
Thanks guys !
As of today I am trying to figure out how to get my car to Iowa without breaking the bank. Living in Alaska my major expense is getting the car shipped to Seattle on a barge. It takes about a week and costs almost a thousand bucks one way.
If I bring my truck to tow it the price doubles and I'll have to rent a trailer.
Considering just having it transported like I did for the Buffalo convention but I'll have to get busy to make that work.
I finally got out in the garage yesterday. I didn't get much done on the Vair but I got stuff arranged and made a list of items like gaskets that I need to order for engine #2.
I've still gotta replace the jug that I used at indy after my fuel mishap. The bearing looked good so I will reuse it.
I just noticed that there will be an event at Marshalltown before the convention. That was my first moving event in my Vair and the most fun.
Here's a few pics from last night. The one showing the sunset was taken from my deck after 9pm and then it was already getting light outside by 3am. We're still gaining about 5 minutes of daylight each day and by the end of June we'll only have 2 or 3 hours of darkness.
Thanks for the offer Michael !!!!! A ride with you may enough for me
I'm hoping to starting actually turning some wrenches later today.

>>>I still have the communique with your car on the cover with the (i think) buick wheels...<<<<
Yeah - that was march 1991 - it was before I bought the car but it still had the buick wheels on it. They were 14" and had been rewelded for a different backspace. I liked the wheels but when I did the disk brakes there was no way they would work. I sold them to everyone's favorite moderator >>>>PS ..what are you doing to it?<<<<
Mechanically all it needs is for me to replace #1 piston and cylinder. It's a long story but I'll try to simplify it.
I have two big bore motors #1 is in my car and #2 has been in some stage of assembly since 2004.
At the Indy olympics in 2008 I exploded a cylinder in #1 - I stole a piston and jug from #2 so I could run the drag races the next day.
I had spare slightly used parts at home and I was gonna just use them in #2. I found out that the jug base O.D. was larger and the used jug wouldn't fit #2 so I took the jug that I stole back off #1 and used it in #2.
Now I just have to match the one I blew in #1 with a used one I thought I was gonna use in #2. Whew !
I have lotsa little things that have been on my list for years but mainly I need to repaint the rear fiberglass bumper and the carbon fiber decklid. It fell over while leaning against a wall on a windy day.
Otherwise the car is just like it was at Indy ----
Except for my Chinese seats
