Memphis Motorsports Park Sold!!

Well we were just told at the car club meeting that Memphis Motorsports Park has been sold to the railroad.. It will never be a race track again.. Railroad tracks are close so a spur or two will be run into it.. The bulldozers will do away with anything that looked like a race track. It will be used to stage, load and unload from trains those containers that trailer trucks pull.. Also on the rumor mill is Tunica Mississippi is building a round de round track off of hwy 4 to lure in NASCAR plus a new quarter mile dragstrip.. This way the hotels can fill up and the little bit of money the people have left after paying their way into the race track, they can lose at the casino's.. My friend drove me past the place where the new track will be built in Tunica and all you can see is big earth moving equipment moving the ground around the way they want it to be.

The airport staying? I met Milo High, Elvis Presley's pilot there. Kept a Stearman biplane there in a hanger that he shared with a friend of mine. Missed a chance to go up with him.

I think the airport will stay. It is across the street from the old race track and I don't think it had anything to do with the race track. Also I'm not sure if you and I are talking of the same airport. There is also one on 61 hwy. just south of Memphis as you are heading for Tunica.. It has been closed for about 5 years now.. The hanger is being used as a storage building now.. I flew into that one with my friend Mike.. I'm probably spelling it wrong but he had an old Mull Rocket airplane.. With it's big factory engine and small airplane, it would only use half of the runway most small airplanes used to take off. It was fast.
