I would caution against bump starting any manual transmission in 1st gear. You're forcing the engine to turn as much as 12 times faster than the axle/wheel, which puts a lot of stress on the gears and shafts in the drive train.

>>checked the battery voltage and it was a little low at 12.2 V. If it can turn the starter over at a reasonable speed<<

Does that mean it is or isn't cranking the engine over?

Red Light

Post by wbabst »

I drove my car to work today and on the way home had to put up with this annoying red light.....
Image

I would have been in a panic but I have a temp and oil pressure gage both showing me that I was okay. I had to stop and take a look, it turns out my oil pressure switch went bad and was leaking oil. You can see it all around the top and of course my engine now. It made a bit of a mess but I got home and will replace it tomorrow.

Over the weekend we have an event called "Cruizin Grand" here in Escondido. Out of 200+ cars, had two Corvairs "representin".

Drove it to work. It's a bit chilly out. Only one of my window handles is installed and the rag top is a PITA so I just leave it all open for now.

Car ran great! Little stumble off idle. I need to adjust the carb again. Probably because, again, it's a little chilly.

Well it wasn't today, but Monday of this week. We usually don't get much snow up here during the winter but this winter has been the exception. Sunday night and Monday morning I woke up to a nice snowfall. I figured this would be a fun way to see how the Corvair does in snow. I had seen a number or adds touting the Corvairs abilities in the snow. I grew up in Maine and Nebraska so am not new to snow driving. My Lakewood did great, although lane changing was an adventure.

You can see the new planes being finished by Boeing in the backround.

Wbabst, Speaking of planes, I'm seeing drastically different tracks left by your front and rear tires. What's up with that? Did you slide into that spot Jim Rockford style?

Looks like he swung wide the right and then turned in.

Cool drive!

The cemetery is in Kalamazoo, Mi.. It's 4 miles from my home & I photographed a few thousand headstones there. :tu: I have a grandson who works in Ottawa & a daughter who lives there too, looks to be around 80 miles East of you, just Souht of I-80. Now they have moved back to Michigan.

I love these roads too!

Took my daughter, in the Spyder, down to the local Cars and Coffee.
