Another correction! It had been reported that 1968-1969 Corvairs used a separate resistor wire run all the way from the main harness connector to the ignition coil positive terminal. This reverted to wiring routing last seen in 1962! The final two Corvair model years apparently routed the special resistor wire all the way from the main harness multi-connector directly to the ignition coil positive terminal, instead of the previously-used splice seen on 1963-1967 Corvairs that originated at the starter solenoid connector harness. The photograph shown below confirms this wiring method, and I have modified the shop manual wiring harness diagram to show this change.

I need some help. Can anyone with an original, or correct, 68-69 model Corvair engine wiring harness look at the ignition coil wire or wires attached to the "+" terminal and reply back how many and what color they are?

I've been told the Corvair 68-69 shop manual wiring diagrams are incorrect. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I modified the schematic diagram to document/reflect the actual production wiring used by GM in the 1968-1969 Corvair.

Incorrect, correct about what exactly, all I did was post the diagrams , made no statement about them being correct or not.

On the 1962 Passenger Car Combined Schematic, the wire for the oil pressure sender is identified as "N/BRN". What on earth is the "N" color? I've not seen that in the color codes posted. Thanks.

Thanks for putting these diagrams together, Brad. They've been helpful to me putting my car back together.

Interestingly, my 65 Monza convertible has two differences in the blower wiring, which appear to be original:
1. There is no tan wire, it is black/light blue instead. This makes some sense given that 66 and later cars seem to have a solid light blue wire here. The transition must have happened in phases.
2. The location of the black/light blue and black/orange wires are swapped at the resistor block. This means that in low speed, the two resistors are in series, and in medium speed, only the lower value resistor conducts. This means both low and medium speeds are slower in this car than on other cars. Perhaps this was a mistake during a prior repair, impossible to know. I have swapped the locations to match the diagram, and the difference in speed is not huge, but is noticeable.

I failed to see your question last August. As far as I can tell, N/BRN would be WHITE WITH A BROWN STRIPE.

Back many years ago, I was able to get colored wiring diagrams for my 66 coupe. I was also able to get colored wiring diagrams for my 64 Greenbrier, which also included the car diagrams.

The diagrams were done by Ned Madsen (AeroNed on the Corvair Center). He stopped participating on the forum and no one could his attention to get any more after 2018.

He made diagrams by individual circuits, by the sectional harness and the full car harness. Here is a snippet of the engine diagram list. Also, here is one of the individual circuits he made.

If any one knows Ned and can reach out to him, it would be cool if he would start selling the CDs again or pass off the masters to someone who can do the selling for him.

When I saw this post I thought it might be helpful to copy it over to this thread so that this valuable wiring information is included with the other schematics that do not really cover the variations in wiper system wiring.

I thought someone here could use one of these Corvair 2 Speed Wiper System Schematics sometime in the future.

The attached 1962-1963 Supplement - Chevrolet Corvair Shop Manual - Section 8 - Electrical Systems is all that was published by Chevrolet for the 1962-1963 Corvairs. These were the basis for the combined schematics that I put together for the earlier portion of this Corvair Forum section. The schematics never really covered or displayed the wiring of the Spyder in those model years, but page ELECTRICAL SYSTEM 8-16 does describe and show the unique differences found in the Spyder instrumentation.

The Corvair Assembly Manuals offered by Clark's Corvair Parts on catalog pages 243A and 243B for your model year Corvair may provide some additional material that may be helpful and may cover your Spyder with more detail. (I don't have a copy for the 1963 model year, so I cannot confirm that it will provide any more desired detail, but you should find the assembly manual to be a great addition to the 1963 shop manual supplement.

Big question here.

Is their anyone versatile enough with GIF files where they can validate Ned Madsen's colored Vair wiring files and improve them to make new electronic files for Vair owners to get on a stick or downloadable file(s)? This would require files for all years and add on factory options. Ned never did the 1967 model.
It would also be heplful to put a info/troubleshooting section in each model year's file. Since Ned has given up on the Vair world, we need someone to take up this missing important function for the future.

Here is a copy of one of his major schematics.

I was looking up the Corsa/Spyder overheat buzzer part number for a friend and found that the info was not in this forum.

Original buzzer P/N 1116952
Delco P/N 952-12
alternate 1115820
alternate 1652940C91 (1115820 is stamped on the cover)

You can use the 69-73 BUICK SPEED SAFETY BUZZER & HORN RELAY 1115879 as it has same connection, but an extra terminal will have to be taped off. You can also use the 69-72 CAPRICE IMPALA SEAT BELT/DOOR BUZZER WARNING RELAY 3961500, but you will have to change the connector.

1974 To 1977 Impala Chevelle Vega Seat Belt Warning Buzzer P/N 6258257 & 1972 1973 Monte Carlo Seat Belt Buzzer Warning 6262663 could be used, if you rewire connections and find a way to mount the buzzer.

i hope this info helps some here.

Ned made these then sold CD's for all of the years. I would be very careful about posting private stuff without permission.

Well, Ken, can you make contact with Ned to see if he will begin supporting CDs, memory sticks or download files again or transfer files to someone in the Vair hobby to help the the Vair owners wanting a copy. I think he was up in the midwest somewhere. :banghead:

The way I see it, he copyrighted GM's diagrams from the 1965 Shop manual which itself was copyrighted in 1964.
His use may not be quite legal without their approval. As you can see on his diagram, it states diagram was written by GM in 1965. Not quiter accurate , since manual was copyrighted in 1964. It is not stated anywhere he had GM approval to use the duiagrams for his use to make money of a revised version of them.

Also, colored versions of the GM Corvair wiring diagrams have been published for quite a while before Ned produced his colored diagram package. They are also copyrighted, but again no GM appoval note. Maybe he is violating their copyright with his full version diagram. Lots of unanswered questions regarding this subject.

As long as someone else produces another set of colored diagrams on their own to add the corrections/improvements and make significant changes to the diagram package, then it would not be a use of his electronic data. It would be using the GM wiring diagrams knowing where the GM mistakes need to be made. Adding Wiring General Information and Troubleshooting for each system would be a significant change and very helpful to new owners unfamiliar with the Vair electrics or any automotive electrics. I am not a graphic programmer user. so I am no good on the deveopment, but I can help on the troubleshooting side of the package. A lot of general electrical trouble shooting is already out there.

Off my soapbox. I suspect I have wasted time on this subject at this point. :dontknow:
