WTB Cheap corvair with 140

Unread post by bigbooster » Tue Nov 07, 2017 6:45 pm

Im looking for a good 140hp (or more powerful) engine. I would be willing to either buy just the engine or the whole car, but my budget for this has to be under $500. It can be a spare engine or a car with terminal rust or body damage. I need the engine to swap into a porsche 914 so if anyone has anything reverse rotation it would be very much welcomed. If anyone in the state of Florida has what I'm looking for, I can most likely make the trip to you.

The words "cheap" and "140" don't go together.

The odds of finding a running Corvair engine of any type (1961-1969), 102 hp, 110 hp, 95, hp, etc. for $500 or less are pretty poor. Finding one in your home state would be even lower. Already configured for reverse rotation... extremely unlikely! And changing a camshaft requires a complete dismantling of the engine. If you want a serviceable 140 hp engine you are looking at a cost likely in the $2000-$3000 range or more, and you wiould stil have to tear it apart to reconfigure it for reverse rotation.

I don't think your $500 budget will even come close to what you are trying to accomplish. I would guess you might need ten times that amount to complete such a project (depending on the condition of your existing target vehicle)

:whoa: Clark's Corvair Parts charges about $300 just for a reverse rotation camshaft!

Again, I'm convinced the Corvair is as cool as a Porsche
