1965, 1966 140 engine. Code RN

Unread post by PaulR » Mon Oct 30, 2017 4:37 pm

140 h.p. engine for parts. Pretty much complete. Seized right now but I will try to get it unstuck. Lots of usable 140 specific parts: cylinder heads. oil cooler, distributor, secondary carbs and linkage and exhaust logs. Best offer on the whole thing. Got it from a guy that said "it ran when parked", ha, ha, ha, and I was going to do something with it, but now, not so much. Located in the Fox Valley in east central Wisconsin. You pick it up. Update: I did get it unstuck and it turns freely. I wrote that in a later post too. Also it looks like it is a 1966-68 engine, judging by the four larger bolts used on the top of the cylinder heads. Both cylinder head numbers read 3878570, which further narrows it down to a 1966 non smog engine.

There is a difference in PG 140's, related to the cam I think? I'm rusty after a couple years away!

Crank is 4 degrees retarded. Would need an off set key to use it for a 4 speed I believe.

Isn’t the gear vs the crank offset?

Got it loose yesterday by pouring Liquid Wrench down the spark plug holes. The crank turns freely now.

I thought it would be fine to use a PG 140 in a manual trans car, but that it's not a good idea to use a manual trans 140 in a PG car.

Yes, probably best to use the engine in a PG car. No Frankenstein cobbling or other silly stuff. I am a factory stock guy myself.

I have a PG 140HP with a 4spd in my 64. Runs great.
It gives you more low end grunt up to 3000rpm at the cost of top end power.
