Progress looks good. Using "Petrol" brings to mind gasoline. That could be dangerous.

Many auto parts stores have a product called "Engine Degreaser". Basically you spray it on, liberally, let it sit for a few minutes, then use a water hose with a spray head to wash it off. On really caked on grease, a scraper can be used first, then use the degreaser.

Most of the degreasers are safe for paint.

Many of my engine parts are glossy black powder coat. After driving a while, there is a dirt build up. The degreaser is sprayed on, and let to sit 10 minutes. Then hosed off.

Then "Pledge" furniture spray wax is applied and the engine, sheet metal and other parts really shine.

I have been using Zep commercial degreaser that I got from Home Depot. Works well but be careful on painted parts. Does not seem to hurt aluminum.
