1968 Corvair Dealer Brochure

Post by 140Vair »

Hello Fellow Corvairians,

I have a couple questions for the Corvair trivia buffs in the audience. These questions are regarding the 1968 Corvair Dealer Brochure.
  • 1) The front cover pictures a white Monza turning left on a cobblestone city street over some train tracks. Does anyone know where that shot was taken?

    2) The second page pictures a convertible Monza with a trailer hitched to it. However, my question regards the actual year of the Corvair in the picture. Is it really a 68 or a 67 Corvair? I have a B/W photocopied version of the brochure, so I may not be able to distinguish the subtle 68 mods. Maybe you can help me determine that. Two clues that make me believe that the car pictured is actually a 67: A) is the non-appearance of the rear side marker light just ahead of the rear bumper and B) is the steering wheel trim appears to be the 67's bright chrome finish as opposed to the 68's matted finish.
So what do you think?

The 1968 brochure used the same pics as the 1967 brochure which obviously was printed before the 68s came out . I have brought it up previously that I thought they just airbrushed in the marker lights for 1968.

The same white vair on the cobblestone street sans the marker lights in 67 below.

No help on the location.

Thanks for your input Kevin, good eye.

Wow. The marketing budget for the Corvair effort must have really dried up by 67.

So there appears to be 3 versions of this white Vair.
  • 1. The original 67 photo ad you mentioned
    2. The airbrushed 68 brochure ad below
    3. An airbrushed 68 photo less the airbrushed shoulder belts (I'm not sure of this picture's origin. Found it at the Corvair Center forum.)
I thought it might be pretty cool to recreate the 68 Corvair brochure shot, but since there really was no 68 Corvair shot at the location... :assault:

BTW: I believe another clue that this is not a 68 is that, on a 68, the parking lights are lit when the headlights are on.

Only one parking light is lit - thus it seems to be the blinker that's on. ::-):
