FS '62 Rampy 'QuickBuild'

Post by rcavictor »

Apology in advance for the length of this post but thought best to provide as much info as possible to preclude all the questions that come along :)

During my 30 years in the airlines and plenty of 'little airplane' time, I seriously considered building one of several aircraft but couldn't muster the time commitment. One of the options most experimental aircraft manufacturers offer is a "Quick Build" kit that significantly reduces the time for a builder to get their dream to completion - generally called a 51% build - to stay in compliance with the owner-build spirit of the FAA regulations.

I am here today to offer some lucky Corvair Owner/Builder the opportunity for a Quick Build '62 Rampside! I would venture to say that most of the heavy-lifting is completed and all that is really required is body finishing work (light filling/blocking) then paint and reassembly. Here is the story, some pictures and an opportunity...

I purchased a very solid '62 Rampside from a friend who had acquired the truck in a large collection of Corvairs from South Dakota. The truck had the usual fender, floor and dogleg rust. I took the project to Jim Rodamaker of Rodamker Customs, who has done 5 projects for me now. For those who know, or don't, Jim is an extremely talented "old school" metal worker who can fashion metal shapes very efficiently. In short, he is amazing. In this particular build I asked Jim to do all the metal work and take it to primer.

This truck turned out great and I brought it home to Florida almost two years ago where it has resided in my air-conditioned/heated shop. Time has not been my friend! Too many project and acquisitions have passed it by and now I have decided to make room and allow someone else to finish it in the manner that they desire. If you have done one of these projects you will know how much $$ it takes to get to this point - and you will know what a good value I am offering here. Fortunately this build was done prior to today's REALLY expensive parts pricing, but I still have much more in the build than I am selling for...

I have attached pics of the current status but have many pics of the truck while undergoing metalwork for someone who has serious interest. I am offering this Quick Build project in two forms:
1) Roller (without installed 140 & 4spd) but included date-correct FC 80hp $7500 OR
2) truck and the currently installed VERY STOUT 140 4spd $12,500

Read below for more info on the highlights of what has been done and what is included.

Here is a link to video on my YouTube page with a start/run of the current 140 with open headers
