FC 2020 Front End

Post by Vairamp »

I had someone “restore” my ‘62 Rampside. In checking the front suspension and steering, I found that what was said and what was done didn’t equal. In checking linkage boots some had absolutely no grease and some actually had dirt pouring out. Many Zerk fittings were clogged too. How does someone replace a “boomerang”, “rattle can” spray the underside and not check any fittings?

Since everything probably needs to be replaced I’m considering bringing it all to present day standards. I’m looking at Rack & Pinion, calipers, bags or coil over shocks. Of course every bushing needs to be replaced too.

Just want a safe and nice ride, with easily available parts.

Can anyone help with what to get or any advice would be great.

THANKS

The speedway 55-64 chevy car disk brake kit works as a bolt-on kit for the front brakes.

There’s no issue with original wheel tire clearance for turning

I did forget to state that this kit doesn't work with the stock FC wheels (14x5), you'll either have to move up to 15s or find 14s that were originally used on a car with disk brakes. I'm not sure what the tire width limit is, and I haven't found anything that really states one. I've personally been trying to track down some 14x5 or 14x6 chevy rallye wheels to use with this kit.

Here's a good website that goes into corvair wheels/tires

I’ve got some Coker white walls that’ll be mounted on stock wheels. More research will be needed for something that’ll work with stock wheels.
