Rampside Door NOT Closing Properly

Post by Vairamp »

I had a shop restore my Rampside. I’ve noticed that the ramp is so tight at the lower right side that it’s taking paint off the door. Has anyone had this issue?
I’m thinking that excess bondo is the issue. It’s probably got to be stripped and redone.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

In my humble opinion, I would check the hinge alignment on the bottom of the ramp. Or take a look at the hinge Aliment on the box,I checked DOROTHY'S RAMP and yes their is a tightness at the bottom of the ramp not enough to remove the paint but these trucks are 60 years old could be metal stress, now that I am commenting here I vaguely remember the ramp was really tight, and realigning the hinge before DOROTHY was painted fixed the problem JOE

Yes a picture is worth a thousand words.

First 2 photos are ramp in fully closed position.
Then unlatched on safety and opened.
Is that what the original hinge looks like?

Can it be cleaned? Sounds gritty when used.
They somehow managed to leave debris in the panel after repairing the skin.

The ramp needs to be adjusted out at the bottom. Looks like there are over sized holes in the hinge and that the gate is shoved all the way in (zooming and looking at the screws it looks this way maybe). The answer is to adjust the gate out farther at the bottom so it does not contact the bedside. If the is not enough adjustment in the existing screw holes they certainly could be elongated a little for a little more adjustment. Is a shame that the shop did not see or correct this before you got it back. Liberal doses of penetrating oils might help the hinge be a little smoother.
