2010 Landspeed Season For Me

Post by Phil Dally »

We will not be ready for the first event...likely not till second half of the season.

We figured out that fixing the spun crank gear motor was too much money.

We can build the 92 MM 3.0 liter for less...because I have almost all the hard parts.

And we can use a lot of the spun crank peripherals on the 3 liter.

Only catch is fabricating an exhaust and an intake...which we don't want to be in a hurry at.

We could make the July event but...running a $10K motor in 105 degrees the first time is a bad idea.

Plus we can get a bunch of the other stuff we want to do done...the list is long.

So the plan is cool weather Sunday October 24 to shake it down and go fast on November 13-14.

Great Western Fan Belt Toss and Swap Meet is Sunday October 29th through the 31st.

So maybe we can put together the same plan as last year...and maybe you guys will show up this time.

p.s. We are thinking about Bonneville in 2011!!!

Will you be using thick wall 92mm cylinders, or the slip in type? Thick wall would be the thing for you to use, they are much less prone to warping than the other ones are, and since you will be boosting for longer periods than a street car would it would be a good idea.

I'm using what came with the set-up from Starr Cooke.

The answer is I don't know...from Starr I'm sure it's the good stuff.

How do you tell if they are the thick ones?

Over on the dark side Mangler ask me the same question.

Got the 2 sided E-flow back from Turbo Performance yesterday.

Here's what thick looks like:

This is thin:

Thick is about .180" wall, the thin ones are .118". That's .070" of extra wall thickness, and trust me it makes a difference both in ring sealing ability (less bore flex) and in cooling. Both should be of particular interest to you, considering your goals.

Rock on, brotha.

If you like that, you'll love what I'm cooking up right now. It involves a Rajay F turbine, and a Garrett 60-1 T4 compressor wheel...

If that T4 has a carbon seal, I'd definitely be running that instead of an old Rajay turbo... Just my $.02
