Fire & ICE 2012 time trials: September 1, Marshalltown, Iowa

Post by Vairforce1 »

Fire & ICE 2012 time trials will be held on Saturday, September 1st at the Iowa International Raceway in Marshalltown, Iowa. The Raceway is a 1/2 mile paved road course and is great fun for all levels of experience and all Corvairs from bone stock to competition class. Don't think that you have to have a performance engine to get good times on this track - some low hp stock automatic cars have set some very fast times.

Earlybird entry fee is $40 if your registration is received no later than August
15th; the registration fee after that will be $50. If you plan to attend, please
pre-register because it makes it much easier on our volunteers.

The track is located at 2002 East Anson Street: see http://mapq.st/MqJXVc

Additional information and registration forms are available on the Iowa Corvair
Enthusiasts website: http://www.iowacorvairs.org/fireice2012.html

UNSAFE...

I really enjoyed the video. Your production techniques, with the final multi-camera views in-sync, split screened, overlapping super imposed, etc. all made for a great display that really helps the viewer to get the "feel' of the run!

Thanks !

I really do appreciate the comments . My videos have evolved over the last 4 years and I do have fun messing with different techniques .
A good part of my improvement is in the editing programs that I am using now . Mostly I use Cyberlink Powerdirector 11 , it has 100 tracks and some pretty cool features like a green screen device.

I also use Corel Video studio Pro 5 . It has a few features like video screen capture that Cyberlink doesn't have but otherwise it is inferior.

Here's a short one from Marshalltown at the same event pitting myself against Michael LeVeque of Levair Performance & Restoration .

Maybe this has been asked many times before but what suspension modifications do you have unsafe?

No limit on questions on this forum ::-):

The car had been autocrossed before I bought it and had been lowered but I do not know what springs it has. The rest I did myself since I bought it in 2001.

The shocks are Koni -- of course .

The sway bars (anti-roll) are 1" crown units front and rear.

I have nylon bushings at the front of the trailing arms and also at the tranny mounts and the tranny crossmember mounts .

The rear lower struts are aluminum Heim joint units and it also has a Levair Performance upper strut kit which eliminates the axles as part of the suspension .

The steering is a factory quick box with Levair modified steering arms.

The disk brakes widen the track by about an inch.

I have a set of Delrin front suspension bushings but have not installed them yet.

In the video above I was using a well worn set of Hoosier autocross slicks in a 245/45/15.

The car rides pretty stiff on rough roads but handles pretty on something like a smooth track.

I just need stickier tires :burnout:
