I will try with my newest addition. It is a project but could make a cool calendar picture. I will take better pictures as I get it moving. The plan is nice interior, engine, wheels, air bags and clear coat.

:goodpost: :coolphotos: I like that picture... it is a classic with the aged paint job that you hate to lose. A rusty car with "patina" doesn't always appeal to me, but this van has history and character, and makes you want to restore the van without losing the classic character and finish.

I tried a little digital photo editing and cropping to try to refine the picture you took...

For your consideration is my 1964 Monza convertible, 110 hp Powerglide, that has been an ongoing project for the last year. I found the car lurking in a Tampa FL suburb, wet and neglected with a paint job applied that would have caused Earl Schieb to look away in horror, a tired and dirty black interior, and an oil puddle the size if a small lake under the drivetrain. It did seem to start, move and stop pretty well, but various bubbles in the car's lower extremities made it obvious that the dreaded tin worm had not only paid a visit, but had probably moved in and opened a diner.
Once I got the car home, I began the rejuvenation by applying about three gallons of that "eat your skin, your lungs and your face" aircraft stripper to the body. Five full paint jobs, with layers of primer in between, were eventually removed before the 50 year old skin finally saw the light of day. Also, acres of ancient and poorly applied bondo filled holes bigger than expected (aren't they always?) and added substantial weight to the poor old girl.
Not wishing to spend my remaining years hand fashioning patch panels, I bought some "West coast, rust and damage free" sheet metal, only to be bitterly disappointed. What I received was in no better shape than what I already had. So, for the next few months, it was cut, grind, shape, weld, fill, epoxy etc. etc. to give the body a new and improved look. Once that chore was accomplished, four coats of the copper-orange pearl coat were laid down, and then four coats of clear applied over it. This was then cut down again with 1200-1500 grit paper, and another four coats of clear allowed for a finish with ultimate depth and gloss after buffing.
The interior, originally fawn, was updated using custom dyes and mixes based on the exterior color I had on a 1959 Bel Air many moons ago. I thought it gave the car a soothing look when contrasted with the more modern colored exterior.
Several mechanical refinements have also been accomplished, with many more to follow. The Exxon Valdez-like oil leaks were tamed with new push rod tube o-rings, valve cover and oil pan gaskets, and the Powerglide was also freshen up with the usual o-rings and a pan gasket.
A first place finish would help me sooth the always hungry Clark's beast which every Corvair owner knows must be fed every so often. First up is a new top, a close to the interior color instead of the black rag now attached to the car.
Thanks for looking and happy voting. Any consideration is appreciated!

July entry.

1960 Corvair 500. 3sp manual (only options were the heater and folding back seat). She's no frills, yet pretty. I had seen this around my hometown in Nebraska growing up and asked the owner if he'd like to sell it in Jan of this year.

Bought May 2015 from 2nd owner and 26,989k miles (origional). She needs a few things some leaks from all that sitting and some new rear springs wouldn't hurt...and please excuse the tires. Thanks for considering.

Thanks for the editing Brad! Looks great. I am working on getting tires for my M/T wheels, they look like Torq Thrust, and are originals from the 60's.

To quote dear departed Elvis "Thank ya, thank ya very much" to all that voted for my Monza. As usual it was an honor to be in such competition.
