Antelope Valley, So. Cal., Home of El Mirage and the SCTA

Post by Corossa »

Hi newbie here,
I just retired and am looking to build a Corvair 8. I am in high desert as yourselves, Scott and Phil .
looks like I just missed a couple of biggies and nothing in December, so I'll have to wait for the next meeting................looks like you meet at the same restaurant the board of another club I belong to meets, what a coincidence!

I had a '65 T500 back in day, a hand me down from my dad after he put 180,000 commuter miles on it. I took it to college for a couple.
Sold it to my brother to buy a motorcycle. he seized it 45 minutes later, limped it home to put it into his Greenbrier. Lately I've been looking to replace it.

Welcome to the forum, high desert brethren! Hope to see your progress in a thread sometime soon! Yup, I just went out to El Mirage a few weeks back.......I saw one corvair out there among all the other neat stuff that was running.

WELCOME!!! Where are you exactly.

We have another member also looking for a V8.

I know a thing or two about running a landspeed Corvair.

I've been campaigning my F/BGALT coupe at El Mirage for 12 years.

P/M me your e-mail address and I'll add you to the High Desert club notification list.

These are the kinds of racers you might see out at El Mirage on any given race day.

On the left is retired legendary multiple 300+ mph landspeed record holder Ken Walkey.

And I think we all know who that guy on the right is...at least you better know.

The streamliner was Ken's...SBC hung on a Toronado , with a gearvender in front of that.

Ken said the front wheel drive made it a one hand on the steering wheel at 300 mph drive.
