Greetings from Grand Island, NY

Post by bghandyman »

Hello all, My father has had his current corvair since '86. Not his first I might add. (140 conv manza) Now since I'm staring to do some of the work on it I've become very interested in getting my own toy. I believe it needs all 4 carbs rebuilt, and I want to talk him into spending some money on the ignition. Any tips?? Anyways I would love a spyder conv. '64 65 or 66 :chevy:

:welcome: to the site. These cars are contagious.
As far as ignition there are lots of options, the easiest/cheapest upgrade is probably the Pertronix.

Welcome !

If the car has been sitting for some time you can be sure the carbs need something.

I'd get it running with the stock ignition first and work out any other bugs before you upgrade the ignition system.

Depending on your needs a Pertronix may be the easiest way to eliminate the points.

There are many other options but you gotta ask yourself what you expect to gain for the cost and time.

My ignition uses a Mallory dist with a Pertronix and in addition I have an MSD 6 box and a huge coil. My engine is not very stock tho.
