New guy in Iowa
Hi folks, I am a newcomer to Corvairs and am picking up my first one on Sunday. It is a 1966 corsa turbo coupe. I'm sure that I'll have plenty of questions as I get this thing back into running/driving condition after 10 years in storage. Wish me luck, I'm going to need it!
Re: New guy in Iowa
Welcome! You certainly picked a nice one to start with . Remember to post pics when you get it.

64 vert - I am in Council Bluffs, right next door to you!
flat 6 musik - Sorry, no more Caprices though they still hold a special place in my heart. Started with our families' very first brand new car - a 1977 caprice sedan that survived 3 teenage brothers and went over 200k miles before finally giving out in 1993. Had a 1969 327 sedan , a 1978 coupe and most recently a 1994 LT1 car that I did some custom work to. I have always been a big fan of "underdog" cars that none of my buddies think can possibly be cool, until I repeatedly prove them wrong. They all think Corvairs are lame. But I know better!

Re: New guy in Iowa
Picking the car up this evening. Here's a few details. 66 Corsa turbo. Original silver with black guts been repainted dark gray. Does not have original motor. Now has a built up 140 motor with turbo. Has quick steer arms, 13" stocker wheels cut up and rewelded to be 13x8. Rust free body. Paint is not that great and car has been in storage in a basement garage so interior has mold. I will post pictures when I get it home. Previous owner also has a 67 covair coupe with a home brewed tube chassis and a front mounted small block. That thing is one wicked 1/4 mile car!
Re: New guy in Iowa
Welcome! Lookin' forward to pics of the 'vair. Sounds like a good one. Dig the Caprice pic too.

Well the car is now safe and sound in my garage. As promised, here are a few cell phone pics. Sorry they are kind of weak pictures, but it's super hot here and I'm tired!

That thing looks like it was built to get it on!!

WOW! It looks very nice!
Check out that fan pulley (under driven to ease up on the hp draw to turn it.) this car was put together to "get it on" for sure!

Re: New guy in Iowa
Previous owner said that he ran the car in 1/4 mile once on the 13" street tires and turned a best of 14 flat @ 105mph. Turbo is new, carb is a 45 COE weber mounted on a crown intake modified to work with the turbo. Lots of stuff for me to sort out. Guy said it was some kind of SCCA car before he got it. Original 180 turbo motor was shot when he got the car. Said the block went to some big Corvair club in Eastern Iowa? Current motor is a built up 140 that he says will take as much boost as the turbo can make. Engine compression was lowered by using a shim and a thicker head gasket. Car has all stewart warner gauges now but he gave me the originals too. Car has a dual master cylinder and an aftermarlet proportioning valve. Bought the car not running and with no brakes to speak of. Should be fun getting her back on the road, and I am sure that once I get started I will have lots of newbie type questions so I thank you for your patience in advance!
