Hello,
I'm new to all this. We recently purchased a 1964 Spyder convertible (red). It appears to be *mostly* original, although it has been repainted (not very carefully) and has a new top.
I'm looking forward to digging through the forums, and I'm sure I will have many questions going forward.

Re: New member in Wisconsin
Welcome to the Corvair Forum!
Turbocharged Corvair Spyders were produced from 1962-1964. The engine displacement increased in 1964 with a new longer-stroke crankshaft. Displacement grew from 145 Cubic Inches to 164 CI, however the horsepower rating for the turbocharged engine remained at 150 hp since the turbocharger was unmodified. The suspension was also improved in all 1964 Corvairs, with a standard front stabilizer bar and a rear transverse leaf spring and new rear coil spring rates to improve handling. A new lightweight magnesium cast cooling fan and belt guides were introduced in 1964 to improve fan belt reliability and reduce the stresses on the fan belt that existed with the older steel fan designs used in 1960-1963.
In 1965-1969 a new body style that included a rear suspension redesign, larger drum brakes, and a charging system redesign using an alternator in place of the generator was introduced. The Spyder name was dropped, but the turbocharged option remained available in the Corvair Corsa in 1965-1966. Turbocharged engine horsepower increased in 1965 from 150 hp to 180 hp due to a turbocharger redesign that took advantage of the increased engine displacement that was introduced in 1964.

I would like to encourage you to expand on your first post and tell us more about yourself, as well as about your 1964 Spyder. Some detailed photographs of the car — including the VIN tag (driver's side door jamb) and Body Tag in the engine compartment — can be very helpful. If you can provide your personal assessment of your mechanical skills and abilities, that would help a lot. Members of the Corvair Forum love to be helpful in assisting other Corvair owners with technical support and advice, but it helps a lot if we have some understanding of your technical background and mechanical abilities, your Corvair-related knowledge, etc. Helping us to know more about you will help us to write comments to you that are tailored to your needs and experience.
