Corvair Rampside

Post by jeffj »

My name is Jeff based in North Yorkshire, England.
Have purchased a 1961 Corvair Rampside pick up imported from Seattle. First seen this vehicle about two years ago when purchasing a VW Westfalia camper van from a local VW importer. It then turned up again at a local VW restoration business near to where I live last year. Owner wanted to dispose of it so purchased in October last year.
Have a few projects on go at moment so will not get round to start making this road legal until the summer.
Needs new sills, some bodywork, brake overhaul, engine service and I am sure a lot more? Vehicle shipped to UK without any keys so also need to source new set.
Can then hopefully MOT and register in UK. Going to go with a rat look at moment till had the chance to use vehicle prior to deciding what to finally do with it.
Flat six engine which I think is a 2.7 litre?
Not sure how many of these vehicles are in the UK?
Now need to start checking out parts scene availability for service items etc.

Also own the following VW camper vans:-
2 1979 T2 Westfalias (US imports)
2 1975 T2 Jurgens camper vans (South African built imports)
1 1979 T2 Devon Moonraker (UK) currently undergoing restoration
1 1990 T25 Autosleeper
1 1992 T4 Autosleeper

Will try and insert a couple of photos later of pick up.

Welcome, Jeff.

The doors and ignition should be keyed the same. There is a code on the door lock cylinder which can be used to cut a key.
If you can't find a locksmith that can do that for American cars over there, there are people on this forum or Corvair Center that can make you a key and mail it to you.

If your Rampside has the original motor, it is an 80hp 2.4L.

Post pictures, everyone loves pictures. Brad Bodie will be welcoming you soon, he has a lot of useful info that he usually posts for new members.
