New member try to clear an estate :(

Post by critterpainter »

Greetings:
I am a new member here with a mission. A very good friend has to clear his property to keep the neighbors happy. He has dozens of cars parked on his property including 4 early corvairs. I have not yet checked to see the years and models of these "sleeping beauties" but there is one coupe, one four door, one van and one greenbrier. I do know that these cars were all driven to their present location but that was at least 25 years ago. The greenbrier has an extra set of rear doors in it and I believe the second seat is in the greenbrier.
The cars are located in Calif. I don't see obvious signs of cancerous rust on the cars but there is surface rust on the horizontal surfaces as the paint has been washed and worn away. They look straight and complete but it has been over 45 years since I have worked on a Corvair so my memory is a bit foggy.
I need to know what a realistic asking price for each one is. Obviously every one will be begging for picture which I hope to provide this weekend.
Thank you

Bill

This coupe would be perhaps $500 to maybe $1000 here in Georgia if it was solid throughout. Engine would need to be free and car complete and basically rust free (as in no rotted out sections or floors) to get into the upper part of the range.
Corvair guy since 1982. I have personally restored at least 20 Vairs, many of them restored ground up.
Currently working full time repairing Corvairs and restoring old cars.

Found another picture:
This one has a spare set of rear doors and the "middle" seat. One window is missing on the passenger side. Tires are too flat to "coast start" it.

The roof rack on the Greenbrier is awesome!
Those two look pretty good from what we can see.
Maybe one of use out here in Ca. can arrange to meet up with you and take some pictures, help evaluate them and get them to good homes.

The patina on the white 63 couple is cool, I'd clear coat it and drive it like that.

I agree on clear coating the 63. There was a Corvair of the month contestant that did the same and it looked great.
