Post by mlewisariz »

Hello ,from Arizona. This is my first post.I have a 1966 Corsa 4/spd coupe which I inherited from a long time friend a couple of years ago.The car is in project condition, but not too far from completion. Many years ago,I have had 62 Monza,62 Spyder conv.,and 63 Spyder coupe,so I'm not totally lost. But,misremembering has crept into the equation.Looking forward to sharing the project.

 :welcome2: Welcome to the Corvair Forum!

The link below will provide you with a list of useful websites that are Corvair-related. Some of the links will lead you to an extensive technical library that will allow you to download shop manuals and other technical references in Adobe Reader format at no cost. There is also a link that will help you to locate nearby CORSA (Corvair Society of America) club chapters. (I believe you can find excellent CORSA club chapters in both Phoenix and Tucson). While the Corvair Forum can be very helpful as you work on your Corvair, having local friends and contacts in your region who are knowledgeable about the Corvair can also be very helpful. These family-friendly CORSA chapters often offer picnics, group scenic drives, technical training and assistance, car shows, and competition events that can greatly enhance your enjoyment of Corvair ownership. You will also find a list of essential Corvair parts suppliers. Clark's Corvair Parts is the biggest and oldest Corvair supplier in the world. You will find a link that can provide you with a series of videos that amount to a tour of the Clark's Corvair Parts facilities. I think you will be amazed at the quality of the reproduction components they offer — particularly the interior carpeting and re-upholstery items. Parts suppliers such as this truly make our Corvair hobby possible.

We are the oldest continually active Corvair club in the world!

In March 1962, a salesman for Rudolph Chevrolet of Phoenix, Arizona saw interesting possibilities in the inexpensive economy car produced by Chevrolet Division that had not been thought out by the maker. Postcards were sent to all recent buyers of Corvairs about organizing a club dedicated to the appreciation of the car.

The first event, an economy run was hosted by the group before there really was an official club but in October of 1962 the constitution for the new club was voted on and approved. The Cactus Corvair Club was officially off and running!

In 1963, the name of the club was modified to reflect the interests of some members who owned Corvettes. For a short time, the club name was the Cactus Corvair Corvette Club. As Corvette ownership grew they eventually formed their own group and the club name reverted back to the original Cactus Corvair Club name.

For a number of years it was an uphill struggle as the other sports car clubs in our Valley of the Sun were not quite sure this rear-engine gadget was a sports car. As the club acquired a little polish and succeeded in hosting greater and bigger events, we acquired an excellent reputation as a true sports car club.

With the closing of Lou Grubb Chevrolet / Power Chevrolet dealerships, the Cactus Corvair Club moved to Thorobred Chevrolet in Chandler.

In 2016, the Thorobred Chevrolet dealership was sold to Earnhardt Auto Centers and is now Earnhardt Chevrolet Chandler. We hope for many more years of working with the new owners to promote the Corvair legacy as well as all the new Chevrolet offerings.

:dontknow: I would like to encourage you to expand on your initial post and tell us more about yourself, your Corvair, and your goals for the Corvair. If you can describe your personal assessment of your mechanical skills and abilities, that would help a lot. Members of the Corvair Forum love to be helpful in assisting other Corvair owners with technical support and advice, but it helps a lot if we have some understanding of your technical background and mechanical abilities, Corvair-related knowledge, etc. Helping us to know more about you will help us to write comments to you that are tailored to your needs and experience. Knowing your location is also useful, because knowing where you live can sometimes suggest possibilities.

Please post some pictures of your project Corsa coupe!

From 1967 to 1972 I had 3 EM's previously mentioned in my intro post, and was a charter CORSA member.I rejoined CORSA 3 years ago. I'm retired from professional motorsports as a fabricator and mechanic.I do almost all my own work, except for upholstery. I've gotten the Clark's catalogs and have most factory tech manuals, plus received a lot of other literature with the car. The car has a freshly rebuilt engine and transaxle, rebuilt suspension front and rear, disc brake setup, and new Koni shocks.Body needs minor minor finish work then paint.Interior needs almost everything. After that "all she needs is finishin' up" as we used to say just before raceday.
