New guy in Arkansas

Post by JohnnyCorvair »

Hello from Little Rock. I will be picking up my second Corvair, a 62 Monza coupe, on Wednesday in Southern Illinois and dragging it back to Arkansas on a trailer. The car runs and drives great, however the fuel tank has nasty gas and its bypassed and running off a gas can right now. My first car ever when I was 14 was a 64 500 coupe. This new one is what I would call a survivor and looks to be mostly original. The seller claims he bought it from its original owners in 2008 and the registrations in the glovebox support this. The Odo shows 28K but I have no idea if its rolled over or not. I am hoping to find a club or group of some sort in Arkansas to meet up with and share knowledge. Great site!

P.S. Sorry for the large photo's.

Welcome Johnny.....looks like a pretty cool score on that '62. Let us know how she runs when you get it all sorted out.

Well I got it home last night, it drove right up on the trailer. Today I did a fluid top off, the right side is leaking oil and has been for quite some time. It starts right up and drives nice down the road. The P/O did complete brake job shoes, wheel cylinders, lines and master cyl. so it stops great. It does get sluggish and want to die at stops once its warm though. It does have some poorly done body filler in a few places, and a floorpan repaired at one time, but nothing too major. All in all a great project to tinker with this summer.

Success! The previous owner did rebuild the carbs, but something made its way to the left idle jet and plugged it up. I took the carb apart and cleaned it out and it runs great, no longer dies in gear when warm. Now to freshen up the 1969 coil wire, the 1977 spark plug wires and a tin off serious cleaning.
