2016 Fanbelt Toss Swap Meet in Palm Springs

Post by Corventure Dave »

Have I missed something or has there just been no mentioned here of the 2016 Great Western Fanbelt Toss and Swap meet in Palm Springs this coming weekend?
I have my Greenbrier loaded and ready to roll out Friday morning. It's a nice 3 hour drive for me one way. Always look forward to seeing everyone and selling a bunch of my shi.... stuff!

I'll be there Saturday morning. I'm debating bringing my green 69. I've got low compression on #2 and some clicking so...

Had a good time in Palm Springs. Found some used parts that were needed and was able to take advantage of Clarks discount for purchases at the show. Saw many old friends.

What a great year. Vintage Corsa did a great job with scheduling and setting up this event.
I have not seen such a busy Friday afternoon in many years! Saturday was banner. They sold out all the swap spaces. Repositioned the
car show up front. Kick-off and banquet parties were both at the Elks. Good venue.
Nowhere to race the boats, but perhaps we can make a simple shallow pond with 2X12's and plastic waterproof tarps, right at the park one year!?!?

All in all a great year. Big thanks to everyone who worked on this event. :ty: Great also seeing old friends and making new ones. Especially putting faces to people here on the board.

If you have never been to this event.... this year was the 39th! Try to make the trek one year.
I have only missed a hand full...Yep..... I'm feeling old.

My photos are at this link on the Cactus Corvair site. We had a great time again this year. We towed the cutaway Corvair to the show over from Phoenix. It got a primo spot at the main gate and got lots of attention. I think I counted 13 Cactus Corvair members at the show. Great turnout and some great deals on parts too!

Heather and I went this year for the first time. Was a wonderful day (a bit warm) and LOTS of nice folks.

IF you are not showing your car or selling parts there was not a lot going on. This is not a complaint, just an observation. I am a member of a medieval group and we have the same issues at our events, if you are not fighting or selling, it can get slow...

There was an amazing amount of stuff for sale! I plan to be back next year, but with WAY more $$. It was really cool to see some folks selling "used" stuff rather then just NOS like most of the vendors. I found this interesting as most of the people I spoke with are working on daily drivers and the like, but most of the vendors are selling predominantly NOS stuff at "you need this for your show car" prices.

My one regret is that I had a cool deal on a set of four single air cleaners and after going to get $$ for what we found, I forgot to go buy those!!!

Picked up a set of LM rear Coil springs and push rod tube removal tool from Dave, Stinger Coil and from Seth, a replacement starter nose cone, and the requisite Event and CORSA swag (hat, shirts, pins)

I hope to be able to drive my Vair next year for the 40 year.

Thanks to those who put this event together!
