Re: Memoirs of a Monza
Just bumping to see if I can get some answers on the questions below. What say you? 1. Is there a big difference between Clarks, California Corvairs, Mike's Corvair Parts? There are major price differences, but perhaps there is a reason behind these? Any opinions on who to use and who to avoid? 2. A...

Re: Memoirs of a Monza
Thanks Brad! I plan to clean the existing oil cooler and judge how it looks afterwards. :ty: Some pressing questions that I need to get answered before moving forward: 1. Is there a big difference between Clarks, California Corvairs, Mike's Corvair Parts? There are major price differences, but perha...

Re: 140 Motor Progress
Agreed! By the way, I'm diggin the 'blue on black' paint scheme you've got going on. What made you decide to go that direction?

Re: 140 Motor Progress
Alan - That engine is looking better every time I see it!! Caddy Mike - I appreciate the encouragement, this has become a super fun project. Glad I decided to go this direction instead of a run-of-the-mill Mustang or Camaro type restore that is all too popular (to the point of it being deluded). DAV...

Re: Memoirs of a Monza
Sorry haven't posted in a while. Had a ton of other things going on! Here's where I'm at currently: - The engine is completely torn down (case split) and everything labeled / bagged right down to the oil dipstick - Working on cleaning up the case halves, heads, and other major components using purpl...

Re: Memoirs of a Monza
Alright experts; I'm down to a case with a bunch of head studs sticking out of it... the question is whether or not to split the case open. Pros and cons? Is there some specific tests I should run like cam lift (using a dial indicator) or what? Here's what I know so far: 1. one of the valves stuck a...

Re: 1964 four door automatic project by remote
I'm right there with you! About to place my order for rings, lifters, seals, and bearings this week. Hoping that a great car is built around a solid rebuilt drivetrain!

Re: 140 Motor Progress
I realize now what my worktable is missing - THE BOTTLE OPENER!
You may have already mentioned this, but did you end up splitting the case open? Also, did any of your studs come out when removing the heads?

Re: Memoirs of a Monza
Not sure Mike. I guess that would explain all the smoke though. I'm guessing this piston needs to be replaced. Will upload some pics of the valves this evening.

Re: Memoirs of a Monza
A few Saturday updates and one very pressing technical question: - Started off this morning sitting cross legged on the garage floor looking at my engine... I decided right then and there that I was tired of working on this thing 3" off the floor, so quick trip to the hardware store and some ti...
