Re: Memoirs of a Monza

Alright, good news and bad news. The bad news is... engine is coming out. Took it for a ride around the block yesterday after getting the old air cleaner assembly put on and started seeing / smelling white smoke behind me (BAD). Not sure if its valve seals or broken rings, but either way the drive t...

Shayne - Dash setup looks incredible! Makes me want to find a LM for my next project.

Re: Memoirs of a Monza

Well darn, that's somewhat of a disappointment. It is what it is though! Aside from the value of the car as a whole (which this won't be a professional restoration by any means), are there any negative implications on having an engine that's not original?

Re: Memoirs of a Monza

Brad - once again, thanks for your incredibly detailed response! Thanks to Jim and Jeff as well! This forum is an excellent source of knowledge and support for a first time corvair-er. So glad I signed up. Got both tell-tale lights working tonight; turns out the temp/pres light was just a simple wir...

Re: Memoirs of a Monza

New vacuum lines made a world of difference! Ran like a dang singer sewing machine!!   $6 worth of rubber hoses had more of an impact on this car than anything I have done thus far. Brad - I tried the polarizing procedure tonight before driving around the neighborhood and to my su...

Re: Memoirs of a Monza

Thanks Brad! Will try polarizing tonight as you mentioned. Ordered ultra delux carb rebuild kits from Clarks today as well.

Re: Memoirs of a Monza

Hit the vacuum lines tonight. As bbodie had predicted they were all dry-rotted and brittle as glass. I've got them all bagged up and will match them to new lines at the auto parts store tomorrow during lunch. Hoping that will make a huge difference on my neutral vs 'in gear' idle speed. Did run acro...

Re: New from Illinois

Welcome! I've actually just joined this forum myself and also came loaded with a 64 Monza (4 door 900 package). Do you have any pics? What are your plans?

Re: New from East Texas - 64 Monza

Brad - Thanks so much! This is exactly what I needed to get started! Never would have known that about the generator if it hadn't been pointed out in your post. I will also update my profile to include some additional information about myself and my experience. Plan to really dig in this weekend and...

Re: New from East Texas - 64 Monza

Thanks! Any suggestions on where to start? Planning to do plenty of research and find out exactly what I've got first, maybe put it on a lift and get some pics of the underside. I'm sure a basic tune up would do a world of good (points, coil, plugs, clean out the carbs, new gas in tank, etc). Are th...

New from East Texas - 64 Monza

Hello everyone! I'm completely new to the Corvair following, just purchased a 64 Monza 4 Door this week. The car is running and driving... in the loosest sense of the term. The engine will only stay alive if you have your foot to the floor but then tries to putter out as soon as you put the car into...
