Not running evenly on one side

Hi all from New Zealand. I have a ‘62 Spyder convertible without the turbo fitted. I am running it with twin carbs, both being refurbished from California Corvairs. The right hand side idles very evenly however the left side is less even and sort of puffs. The car runs and pulls ok. I have checked t...

Re: Breather System

Thanks for your replies. Brad is 100% on the mark. I was confusing the balance tube and the PCV system. My engine is fitted with a simple road draft tube. I will however look to update this with a newer PCV system that you recommend. Cheers from sunny New Zealand. SeamusNZ Sent from my iPhone using ...

Breather System

Hi from New Zealand, I have a ‘62 Spyder convertible with a non-turbo engine that I have rebuilt and is running pretty well. My question relates to the breather pipe that runs between the two manifolds (beneath the carbs). At the moment I don’t have the pipe/hose connected to one of the air cleaners...

Re: Valve lifter question...

Hi there from New Zealand. I had s similar problem when setting my valves. Seems I had to set TDC on No2 cylinder, not No1???

Kind regards... SeamusNZ

Re: will motor run outside of a car?

I started my engine several times while attached to an engine stand. It worked great. I used washers to provide the appropriate spacing between the bell housing and the starter. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170907/bab538007b99e0827b7f92c2c70b4198.jpg Sent from my iPad using Corvair Forum mobil...

Engine Sound

Hi from New Zealand, I now have my Corvair engine running quite well, although there are a couple of questions that you may be able to help with. I have fitted twin exhausts to the engine. 1. The engine isn't overly noisy under the lid, but it isn't quiet either. What should the engine sound like un...

Re: Gen/Fan Light Flickering

Hi all, I finally figured out why my Gen/Fan light was flickering while the car was running. Thank you for the attached videos, they were very helpful in solving the problem. I took the alternator apart to check the diodes and found that the insolated screw that was fixing the diode trio to the brus...

Re: Gen/Fan Light Flickering

Thanks for your prompt reply and advice Shonan, I tried disconnecting everything one at a time but no luck I'm afraid. It would appear to be an isolated problem unrelated to the other systems. I have noticed though that when the Gen light is brightest, it dims considerably when I put the heater fan ...

Gen/Fan Light Flickering

Hi from New Zealand, My '62 Spyder has developed a new problem since I wired up the courtesy lights, heater fan and wiper motor. The Gen/Fan light is flickering intermittently even when the car is traveling along and at 2000 revs. It ranges from a dim flicker to the light remaining on quite brightly...

New Zealand's Latest Corvair

image.jpeg image.jpeg NZ Spyder (1).jpg Hi all from New Zealand, My '62 Spyder is all but complete after a full ground up rebuild. I am still considering obtaining a turbo engine to complete the project, however the twin carb engine will get me around in the meantime. The car is a dream to drive an...

Re: Rocker Heater Duct Replacement

HI again from New Zealand,

I figured it out. You need to remove the metal duct under the rear seat. You can then fix the new duct to the metal fitting and feed it into the rocker. Easy...

Thanks for your help.

Kind regards....

Rocker Heater Duct Replacement

Hi from New Zealand, I am now at the final stages of rebuilding my '62 Spyder convertible. My next job is to replace the heater ducts that run through each rocker and provide air to the wind-screen defroster etc. The existing duct which was rotted out has been removed but I am stumped at how to inst...

Wiper Motor Issue

Hi all from New Zealand, I have a problem with my single speed wiper motor that someone may be able to help with. The motor runs ok for about 5 minutes before stopping mid cycle. I have noticed that the motor is heating up a bit and is quite hot by the time it stops. If I move the wipers manually it...
