Re: 1965 Corsa Coupe

Looks good! Thanks! One other thing I forgot to mention is that BOTH secondary carbs had the floats adjusted down to zero and the needles were completely closed off. Once I replaced the needles and seats, it took a lot of tab bending to get then back into Bob Helt's specs in his book. I guess this ...

Re: Couple of Qs on wiring and fuel lines

I've seen many awful looking OEM GM coils still doing their work just fine. :chevy: I have bought maybe two new coils ever. Lots of used ones still good. As a friend of mine says " Its always the coil " is the standard response to any ignition problem. And a good coil is thrown awa...

Re: main fuse box under dash

Also - "Foot dimmer switch not working" is usually just a bad switch. They're inexpensive and easily replaced. There's a remote chance the connector into the trunk has a bad contact. It's unlikely all four high beams are burned out but that's a remote chance too. If your high beam indicat...

Re: convertible parts ... need to know where to find in manuals

I have a 65 monza convertible and it is very hard for 1 person to put up. I've oiled and spray lube all of the joints but it did not help. took off the drivers side back seat wall panel and other side to see whats going on. The drivers side looks weird and I want to compare it to the manual . Can n...

Re: Couple of Qs on wiring and fuel lines

Sweet. Thanks for the wealth of info. I saw on the diagram some letters for the generator but either did not look hard enough or they are not on mine. I will swap those out and do some testing. The harness is from Clarks. My old one had a bunch of missing ends so I am unsure if my old harness had t...

Re: Instrument cluster lighting

On the late wiper switch there should be an internal "star" washer between the switch and the back of the dash to help get a ground. Correct! The other issue with the wiper switch is the terminal board has a blade riveted to it that contacts the wiper metal case that contacts the dash met...

I find them on Amazon, Grainger, and ebay. Prices vary, but watch the shipping costs.

Re: Silent Cam Gear

Fiber cam gears were common on older engines. Their advantage was they were quiet! Used typically up to the 1950's and then nylon and steel became more common, EXCEPT for competition use where big cams and high RPM caused fiber gear failures. [/color] The fiber cam gears in OEM engines lasted longe...

Well I'm inspired. Finally a warm day here so I'm going out to the garage to do some Corvair work.

Keep up the good work Seth.

Re: Cylinder Spacers

I've been philosophically opposed to cylinder spacers to use small cylinder tops in large head registers but maybe I'm wrong. Racers did it all the time to use full fin cylinders and 140 heads together. It came up now because I find myself with '60 full fin cylinders bored for new EM .030 pistons o...

Re: Couple of Qs on wiring and fuel lines

Brad has covered the generator/regulator wiring very well. Your picture of the coil is an issue. The 1964 Spyder was the first Spyder model year to drop the ceramic ballast and go with the in harness ballast wire, same as the Monza. The BLACK/YELLOW wire is the ONLY wire that should go to the coil &...

Re: County98's Learn as I Go Thread

Nice work! I "rotated" my fuel lines since I had an electric fuel pump. I hooked up a similar PCV "J" pipe to my custom air cleaners. Works well. Once a year I notice a little motor oil film in the air cleaner and wipe it off. So far no need for a "collector can". Then ...

Re: Front Cossmember Question

Is there or what are the difference(s) between and Early model front crossmember and one from a late model? AFAIK - they both have the same body bolt patterns. The LM units were designed so the camber was adjusted with lower eccentric bolts, while the EM unit shimmed the upper "A" arm sup...

Re: Wild 1962 Corvair build mid engine Audi V8

I wonder if it even runs? Seems really strange that they wouldn't even test drive it. One picture shows the engine with no cams. In the Hot Rod/Custom world some vehicles are built as art and are never started/driven while on the show circuit. Exhaust is spotless, no heat signature. The finish has ...

Re: Instrument cluster lighting

Just went through this with a friends 64, in his case it was insufficient ground for the dash lights only, turn signals and high beam indicator worked fine. In his case the car had been completely repainted and there just wasn’t good contact from body to instrument panel hood to instrument panel. W...
