PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER: Normally used to stab the lids of old-style oil cans and splash oil on your shirt; can also be used, as the name implies, to round off Phillips screw heads.

Re: Wall Decoration

I could duplicate that pretty easily , hummm , now I`m getting ideas !! I had thought about having a sign guy make one for me, but decided it would likely cost more than just finding an original. If you're serious, let me know and I'll take some detailed pictures. Or, just drive up to Rochster and ...

Re: 2010 Performance Workshop

I highly recommend the Performance Workshop for both good times and good information. I haven't attended one since it was moved in Indy, but I regularly attended when they were being held at Gary Funkhouser's shop (VMS) in Dayton. Unfortunately, at the time of the year it's held, snow and/or freezin...

Re: Wall Decoration

It's 3'x1'. I bought it from Gary Funkhouser -- it used to sit in his office at Vintage Motor Sports. Gary was the second owner and is pretty sure it came from a Dayton, OH dealership. All it needed was a new transformer (the original one likely works, but it was a zap waiting to happen).

Favorite -- or least favorite -- tool

What is your favorite -- or least favorite -- tool? I'm a tool whore, so any tool is good, but one of my favorites is the one I bought myself for Father's Day last year. It wasn't cheap, but it was a Father's Day present afterall. :)

Wall Decoration

Here's my most recently acquired wall decoration. I was going to hang it in the garage, but it will probably end up in the lower-level family room.

Re: ever have your Corvair mistaken for something else?

My '66 convertible has been mistaken for a Camaro a couple of times. Other times at car shows, some spectators don't have a clue -- and some flat out don't believe it's a Chevrolet.

That has been around for a long time. In the older version, a hand came out and flipped the switch.

Re: Cruise Control

The one sold by Dakota Digital is a Rostra (also sold by JC Whitney). I'm putting in a Flaming River tilt wheel that uses a GM style screw-in style. Flaming River also sells the Rostra, but only the version for non-computer cars (uses magnets and a pickup on the drive shaft). Since I have an electro...

Cruise Control

Has anyone installed a cruise control in a LM Corvair? If so, do you have pictures of the way you mounted and connected the control unit? I'm going to install one (Rostra probably) in my 140 and wanted to take advantage of any prior knowledge.

Snow? That isn't snow! This is snow (about a month ago). The toy cars are all snug in their garage.

I find myself agreeing with Weaver more than I disagree. My view is that the Communique (if it even continues to exist) is a community magazine with people articles. Tech articles belong in a greatly expanded web presence. There are others in the Corvair community who agree with me, but the powers-t...

Re: Civil Defense Radio....

Not to be harsh or cynical, but I can't help but laugh at some of the idiot sheep that actually bought into all that civil defense BS that the Gov't was selling. Anyone with half a brain would have, in light of Hiroshima (which was a SMALL bomb when compared to the ones built during the cold war), ...

Re: Civil Defense Radio....

Fact. There was a lot of concern in the '50s and early '60s about a nuclear attack from Russia. Elaborate plans for evacuating cities were put in place, people built fallout shelters, and school kids practiced "duck-and-cover" (basically hiding under their desks). The Civil Defense channel...

Re: ++ WHEN TIMES, CAR'S AND MUSIC WAS GREAT ++

I graduated from high school in 1957 and the times and cars weren't all that great. Jobs were tough to get -- especially for teens. I remember standing in lines 50 kids long to apply for a single job opening. Yeah, a lot of guys had great rods, but for me it was spend my money on hot rods or save it...
