Re: Valve Sizes for a 150 hp turbo
This has been done a thousand times over the years; there are two approaches. 1) Modern (not fuel resistant) turbo, intercooler, custom manifold, blow through carb system. This approach is 100% custom and takes high skill in fabrication, tuning, and problem solving. 2) Corvair turbo (large compresso...

Re: Stop light wiring
Your rear light problems are a classic case of poor grounds at the rear sockets. I assume we're talking about the early model in the photo... EM rear light housings ground kinda randomly: the back bracket digs into the body sheet metal behind the light area. You can clean the landing zones and brack...

Re: Valve Sizes for a 150 hp turbo
Central carburetors and manifolds run cold (They sit in the cooling airflow, have no carburetor heat, and carburetors cool themselves by evaporating liquid fuel). Because of the cooling, the cold mixture condenses on the inside of the manifold and low RPM driveability suffers; you have to run rich j...

Re: Valve Sizes for a 150 hp turbo
Well! That does make for a mystery! Does it have a turbo drain tube? The other clue would be fine threads at the temp sensor (for the thermistor) vs coarse threads for the standard model's snap switch.jmikulec wrote:Funny thing is that these do have the choke rod for carbs.

Re: Rear lights.
Yes, they reply on a rather random connection between the back bracket and the body. There's also a crimped connection between the socket and reflector and this crimp is a common source of a "no ground" situation. For the latter, you can drill a tiny hole at the crimped junction and instal...

Re: Valve Sizes for a 150 hp turbo
Walks like a duck, quacks like a duck! Score! That casting number is for '64 150, right side. As such it should have the oil drain for the turbo at the right front corner above the valve cover. Also, turbo heads won't be drilled through for a choke rod. One of the things I've noticed over the years ...

Re: 66 vert, lots of questions
Welcome to the world of the waterless wonder! To your questions: 1) Are you using premium fuel? Unless your car has a 95 hp engine (80 hp if it's an early motor), all Corvairs require premium fuel. If you are using premium, check the engine timing (timing light); it may be too advanced. If both the ...

Re: Carb Air/Mixture Screw Not Responding - Need Help!
Misfire on a 140, cylinder 1 or 6 can be caused by poor closing of a secondary throttle plate, which leans the mixture on the nearby cylinder. Place your palm over the secondary and see if you feel vacuum. Sometimes the plate isn't well centered and doesn't seal, sometimes it's the linkage, and some...

Re: Carb Air/Mixture Screw Not Responding - Need Help!
It sounds like your carburetor's idle jet is plugged or maybe the idle RPM screw is in too far and it's idling on the main jet (you would see dribbles from the cluster if this is the case). Often both are issues because the normal response to "not idling" is to crank the idle RPM screw dow...

There are four jacking pads. Are they in OK condition? (Shown in the first section of the factory manual if you're not familiar with their locations.)

Re: PG Transmission
The 64 manual transmission will fit 61-65 (and later years with modifications.) The 64 differential has three problems as far as your '65 is concerned. 1) The differential is too narrow by 3/4". 2) The '64 differential will not accommodate the "held in by a big bolt" axle yokes used (...

Re: PG Transmission
Unless you're a major welder/fabricator the '65 parts won't fit on a '64; the rear suspension is completely different. You really don't need to worry about the rear axles on your '64. It's a very rare issue and it only seems to affect those who ignore things as they drive merrily along (with the axl...

Hi to all! Many of you know me from the Corvair Center where I've been very active with over 17,000 posts. I haven't been very active here (35 posts :nono:) and my plan is to change that. So to those who don't know me already: Hi! A little background: I've been a CORSA member since '73 and ha...
