Re: 65-69 Suspension on 64?
I've heard that about the '64 sway bar but I'm not sure it is accurate. I use nylon bushings in mine and probably drive as hard as anyone and I haven't had any issues yet.

The '63 sway bar is tiny compared to the '64. Huge difference.

Re: Is there a certain back psi needed?
That is true the turbo Corvairs have a very free flowing muffler. That is where the term "turbo" muffler came from and why performance guys started using them on other cars.

Re: Is there a certain back psi needed?
That can happen. That is one of the reasons a system that is too large hurts performance. Proper sizing to achieve proper velocity is best to combat the atmospheric pressure that is trying to keep the exhaust in the engine. Too large or too small increases back pressure. The reason single exhaust wo...

Re: Is there a certain back psi needed?
With open pipes you have around 15psi back pressure. A good exhaust system will promote the best velocity to overcome that pressure so if you just have open pipes or the pipes are too large you will actually have too much back pressure. You can also have a system that is too restrictive but that isn...

Re: Cruddy Electricals
Thanks for the kit link. Keep your old solenoid. New one are often very poor quality and don't last long. I've quit replacing them unless they are dead and when I need one I dig through old ones to find a good one. The last starter I rebuilt needed bushings again about 10k later so I guess the new b...

Re: removing steering box
I always replace the rubber pitman bushing with a nylon one as one of the first things I do to any Corvair I drive. I've got one with probably 80k on it and it hasn't worn out yet. I don't like the rubbery steering feel of the stock bushing. I have had to hone some to fit.

Re: Mismatching Carbs?
If there are no provisions in the heads for chokes then the heads are '60 or '61 so it probably isn't a 95hp.

Re: 15 inch wheels
Check the date code on those tires. I doubt they are any good. 7 years is about maximum and a lot of us have had failures around 5.

Re: New member '69 Corvair
Check the rubber line in the driver's side rear wheel well and the rubber line at the tank bottom on the passenger side. They can get soft and collapse or crack and suck air.

Most people just use the 51R since it fits. Of course it doesn't look stock.

Ted is correct those are way too tall. 225/50R15s will fit with the proper offset.

I've got an almost perfect '66 Malibu and Corvairs drive like race cars compared to it.
