Re: Seat upholstery pattern
Left and right seat covers are identical. The trim and adjusters are the only things that make the seats left or right.

Re: Where does this bolt go?
If it is from the transmission mount, remove one of the other bolts and use it to check the threads in the hole, you may need to get a helicoil or drill and tap the hole for the next larger size.

Re: Pilot Bushing
A 5/8" tap works very well, just screw it in until it locks and then use it to turn out the bushing.

Re: Manual trans Linkage Adjustment
If the shift coupler clamp was loosened, it may not be adjusted correctly.
Put the transmission in neutral, loosen the clamp on the shift coupler and position the shifter in the center of the pattern. Then tighten the clamp.

Re: Starter removal on a ‘63 early model
You might want to disconnect the heater hose from the engine shroud so it can be moved out of the way.
This helps vision and easy removal.

Re: Floppy belt.
If your belt shows excessive wear, make sure there is no rust in the pulleys. It acts just like sandpaper. I had belts worn down to half the original width. I probably went through 4-5 belts before finally sanding the last pulley smooth, have been using the same belt for close to 20,000 miles now.

Re: Question: Temp gauge accuracy and proof..
Your gauge may be accurate. My car was running 500 or higher when cruising at 70 also. I deflashed the heads, made sure the compartment seals were all good, tried removing the lower shrouds for the summer, none of that had any effect on the temperature. I was having some carburetor issues during thi...

Re: 63 Project in Las Vegas
Do not try to start it with the old gas, it is known to cause the valves to stick, bending pushrods and pushrod tubes! Someone on here (Brad Bodie probably!) has a list of how to awaken a sleeping Corvair and common items that will need attention.

Re: First Corvair (Wisconsin)
That is a pressure retard unit, and it won't move until the motor is under load and the turbo builds pressure. In the stock configuration you won't see any noticeable boost in 1st & 2nd as there isn't enough time for the turbo to spool up. Halfway on the pressure side is about 7 lbs of boost, th...

If the flare nuts are really stuck, you can clamp vise grips around the line wrench to help prevent the wrench from spreading and rounding the nut

If it hasn't been done yet, you probably want to replace the brake line that requires tank removal for access!
