Re: JC's '67 500 coupe
Made a bit of progress this weekend. Replaced the master cylinder, rebuilt the front wheel cylinders, repacked the front wheel bearings. Finally got the rear drums off! Filed down the rust on the axle register and beat on them some more. Pop! :tu: Adjusted the brakes all around, bled out the old bra...

Re: JC's '67 500 coupe
Still can't get the rear drums off, seem to be stuck on the axle register. Have to get out the crocus cloth. I really suspect the left rear axle bearing is toast, I can feel the rumbling when turning and see the movement when I beat on the brake drum (brass hammer, of course!). Checked the engine nu...

Re: New guy....with a story (might be long!)
Talked to the guy at NAPA, said he sold the white Crown car 10-12 years ago...and that he never had a 'vair with Hagar on the hood :( did get a name of a guy that he sold his car to, I think that may be who the PO got it from. Another link in the chain, hoping to find that guy. I feel like Sherlock ...

JC's '67 500 coupe
What the heck, I'll put my project up here. Hopefully I can keep it moving at a decent pace! Got the car moving under its own power, but no brakes. Still managed to back it up to the pad outside the garage where I can work on it. http://i362.photobucket.com/albums/oo63/vt500ascot/67%20Corvair%20500/...

Re: Project of the Month?
All I have to do is resurrect my '67 500 coupe that hasn't driven under its own power in something like 15-20 years. The engine, not quite so long. I've got the engine running (barely), still need to rebuild carbs and general tuneup, clean gas tank, fix exhaust, replace front floorboards, has no bra...

Re: Mix and match car, help!
Sho 'nuf, got the trunk open! Shined a flashlight around before reaching in for the latch (expected to find large yellow jacket nests!), but the worst I found up front was evidence of bondo (squeezing through puller holes), and an empty master cylinder with about 3/16" of sludge in the bottom.

Re: Mix and match car, help!
Thanks to all, got it running! Got a core alternator, and a $38 parts store unit, and made one good Corvair unit. Carbs definitely need to be rebuilt, but I need to clean the gas tank....and the car didn't come with any keys >:-[ so I can't get the locking gas cap off, or get to the master cylinder ...
