Re: 67 engine dies when warm
Brad said:"This also drops the higher voltage feed to the coil, so the coil voltage drops back to the 7 VDC fed to it via the resistor wire." This is ONLY true when the points (or electronic module) connects the coil "-" terminal to ground. When the points open the coil "+&q...

Re: 67 engine dies when warm
Joel made me think of something. Your car had a FAST XR-700 and the power wire was probably connected to the coil "+" terminal. At this time you said you had removed that and installed the regular electro mechanical points. What happened to the XR-700 power wire? Basically --- with points ...

Re: Pertronix 1162A or FAST XR-700?
I connect the Pertronix to the lower voltage and have had no failures. All the ones I've read about that have failed were connected to 12V. I realize the instructions say to connect it to 12V. I'm not sure that is what the designer intended since it has a ring terminal on the positive wire and it i...

Re: Présentation
The only other VIN related number (besides the actual spot-welded VIN tag) were stamped on the underside of the left/front frame member, partially covered by the left/front crossmember. I've never seen a stamp in the sheetmetal like that, ever! Is this in a door jamb? If the car was imported, then th...

Re: Pertronix 1162A or FAST XR-700?
With tons of miles I have found both the be 100% reliable for me. The 700 has a far better reputation even though they have changed design and owners numerous times. The Pertronix is a lot easier to install and you don't have the external box showing. I always install the Pertronix with the stock c...

Re: 67 engine dies when warm
Yes, I was also surprised after your message. There is a yellow wire going to (-) crimped together with a white/red wire which has some textil tape around it. I tracked down that the yellow cable goes to a connector together with a purple cable (quite thick) and after testing all pins in the connec...

Re: Interesting Corvair wagon sold on Hemmings
Yes a common theme is someone without the ability to do their own repair work buys an inexpensive Corvair and enjoys it until the engine or transmission quits. Then they get a quote from a shop to "fix" the car that is beyond their abilities to pay. The car goes up for sale. As a long time...

Re: Interesting Corvair wagon sold on Hemmings
Agreed. When you "make it your own", it limits the market. There are some mild custom mods that don't make too much difference, but going wild will only appeal to the wild. Then you have the age old "45 thousand invested". Rare are the deals where one recoups their investment in...

Re: Interesting Corvair wagon sold on Hemmings
Wow! 45K invested and he got 10K for it. Now compared to a red on red, 4 speed wagon that recently sold on BAT for around 23K https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1962-chevrolet-corvair-monza-wagon-4/ Dennis Customizing is a tricky issue. It can limit the number of folks that will be interested. Somet...

Re: 67 engine dies when warm
So I went to the car today. I measured the ballast from the cable harness through the cable which goes to the (+) of the coil (white red at the coil, white at the connector) to the (+) of the coil and the resistance was 2.6 Ohm. After putting a 1.6 ohm ballast between the cable it was 4 Ohm. I assu...

Re: Turn signals/brake lights
I just recalled that installing the harness plug into the bulkhead that connects to the trunk harness is next to impossible unless you remove the instrument cluster. You have to make a tool out of wood to push directly from the back of the connector. Another thing. The 1965 models had a separate wir...

Interesting Corvair wagon sold on Hemmings
Not exactly what I'd do to a Corvair wagon, but somebody got a good deal based on the amount of work done. https://linkst.hemmings.com/click/31039284.93915/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuaGVtbWluZ3MuY29tL2F1Y3Rpb24vMTk2MS1jaGV2cm9sZXQtY29ydmFpci0xNTE0ODI_dXRtX21lZGl1bT1lbWFpbCZ1dG1fc291cmNlPXN1bmRheV9zb2xkX25ld3Ns...

Re: Backup switch
Hello everyone. I have a problem with the reverse light switch. The old one or the original one, was blowing the fuses for me, it is certainly shorted. I bought a reproduction at clark's, unfortunately I broke it while tightening it, normal tightening seems to me? Before breaking it, I was able to ...

Re: Turn signals/brake lights
Thanks 66vairguy, looks like I’ll be buying the harness for the engine and under dash. As you can see in the pics there’s no fuse box at all. Why do some guys think it’s okay to pull this stuff just for an aftermarket stereo??!! I have seen some bizarre wiring in old cars over the years. I'm just g...

Re: 66 140 motor
i finnaly finished the restoration on my 66 conv and i road tested it and everything was good but i parked it in my garage and when i went out a day later there was a small pool of oil under the car on the right side, i just started the car up today and let it run for about 1/2 hour and no oil leak...
