Re: Touch up paint

Yeah your cars exterior red is not quite dark enough to be actual Regal Red. A good auto paint supplier can hook you up with a pretty close mixed match for touchup if you take them a good sample to match to. Classic Autocolor in Loganville can certainly do this as can many other body shop paint supp...

Re: Front Brake Line replacement

No rust or breakdown at the flare on the existing brake line . . I think it's the threaded fitting that has issue. I think I can cut it clean . . there is some slack (not much) in the line to still meet the rubber hose fitting. Think I can get this cutting tool at AutoZone or Advanced Auto . . etc....

Re: Front Brake Line replacement

If there is any corrosion in the old line where you want to flare it, it may not flare properly. Is worth a shot however. I would grab a 2 short pieces of 3/16 brake tubing from the local parts house so I could steal a fitting from one and have one the right length to replace the end of the original...

Re: Touch up paint

No idea what your car really is as it has been repainted. For closest possible match take a sample of the cars color (gas door or rear air outlet grille for example) to a competent autobody paint supply store and have them match it. A pint of red paint is likely to be $50-80 or more. Single stage pa...

Re: Center or drag link

Yeah sometimes the bushings go on great and other times not so much. I think the round collar on the shock shafts vary a bit in diameter from brand to brand and perhaps even a little from shock to shock.

Re: main wiring harness

Powertrain does not need to be remove to change wiring harness, nor does rear suspension or any other major component. Feeding the main body harness up between the suspension crossmember and the body is annoying but not impossible with these things in place. Follow the routing of the old harness and...

Re: First time corvair owner needing complete floor pan

The_real_free post_id=101972 time=1539397142 user_id=8592] So you put floor pans in a $200 car and have a car worth $200? No idea where you got $200 from and by the time I'm done with mine I wouldn't except $10,000 for it. The original patina look might not be your thing but it's actually a very po...

Re: First time corvair owner needing complete floor pan

I also question the idea of repairing this car. I also think it is very rusty well beyond the floors and under side. If it was me, I would find a much better car to restore. I really hate to put tons of time and money into a rust bucket when I can put the same money and less time into a non rusty c...

Re: jacks

Short narrow floor jacks are not very good for pulling powertrains or engines. Most aluminum jacks are both narrow and pretty short. Most also have a relatively small lift pad. Might be very unstable with a powertrain supported on it. The ideal thing is a transmission jack with one of davemotohead's...

They take some force sometimes to fully seat. Without access to a vice I would probably find a way to drive them on with a socket perhaps and the top shock nut.

Re: Center or drag link

Alright, just ordered the shocks from Clark’s. Got bolts and “special bushings” too. Curious what’s special about them. The ones on the car now look like the normal bushings that come with the shocks in case I’m missing something. Of course the previous owner is not a very credible person in my boo...

Re: First time corvair owner needing complete floor pan

Sedan floor is not the same exactly either. Look closely for differences. They are mostly the same. So the four door floor pan won't work for the two door? I was under the impression that they had the same wheel base and leg room You can use the sedan floor pan. There are minor differences. For ins...

Yeah puffing out of a carb almost always indicates a compression issue.
