FC with car speedometer & drivetrain to original FC speedo
I have a 110 EM (car?) drivetrain with powerglide in my 62 Rampside. I’d like to replace the car speedo with an original FC shift point speedo. Do I need to replace the speedo gear drive in the differential to run this original FC speedo? How do I check which speedo gear drive I have? Speed seems to...

Overheated Right Rear Drum Brakes
Is that why only the top 1/4 part of the brake shoe is wearing?
In case it’s not clear this is the passenger side rear drum.

Re: Overheated Right Rear Drum Brakes
Well I finally had a chance to check everything. I’m so glad I had a “reputable” Corvair Shop restore my truck. It was obvious what’s wrong as soon as you notice that the brake drum to backing plate distance isn’t equal. It’s closer at the top than at the bottom. I haven’t checked it with a gauge ye...

Overheated Right Rear Drum Brakes
I have a ‘62 Rampside. When I parked in my garage, after a long drive in the rain, I heard a hissing sound from the parking brake drum. Obviously rain water hitting the brake drum. The Parking Brake was not on during the drive. The entire vehicle was restored by a shop less than a year ago. I don’t ...

Brakes: Remote Reservoir & eVacuum Booster
Yes, I know that a well adjusted brake system is good. Mine was actually set up by a NE Corvair shop. I’m still not happy about the braking stop distance. Excuse me for not looking forward to kissing the dash in a front end accident. I just found out about this manufacturer, Master Power Brakes. The...

Re: VAGABOND RAMPSIDE STEERING
i cant help you much with the bushings, but i can with the rack and pinion. on my 66 corsa i used a Dodge Intrepid rack, with a swedge tube tie rods, and a few (easy to make) adapter pieces. it was probably 300$ ish total in parts, and once of the best upgrades i ever did. Welding skills required I...

Re: Rampside Trailer Lighting Wiring
I have never personally had any problem with those wire tap connectors. But because of the possibility of an intermittent electrical connection, I would not choose them for critical operational circuits like the ignition system power for an add-on system like an electronic ignition system. A loose ...

Re: Rampside Trailer Lighting Wiring
The attached schematic may be helpful. The power for the license plate lamps also powers the tail lights. Power for the left and right turn signals are separate, but also illuminate together as brake lights (all controlled by the turn signal switch). LEDs draw only a small amount of current normall...

Rampside Trailer Lighting Wiring
I plan on wiring a trailer lighting connector to my ‘62 Rampside. I’m going to attach an LED Brake/Turn Signal Light Bar to it. The bar will be mounted with magnets. That way, at shows, I can make it look like it did in 1962, and look like in should on the road in 2018. Any suggestions on how to wir...

VAGABOND RAMPSIDE STEERING
My ‘62 Rampside wants to go where I’d rather it didn’t. I was assured by the mechanic that all was well. I said it wasn’t and the boomerang was replaced. When I finally drove it myself again it squeaked like my bones in the morning. I checked and all the steering fittings were dry as the desert and ...

I want to visit that mechanic! Urethane is a little stiff for my liking, but I defer to ramp side owners on opinions regarding them in an fc Sent from my iPhone using Corvair Forum mobile app I’m thinking that making everything tighter, using the urethane bushings, will make the steering feel tight...

‘62 RAMPSIDE Wiper Switch Upgrade
Has anyone upgraded the wiper switch to a 2 speed with washer? It seems that all I can find are newer switches with this option. Would those fit? Even better a modern multi speed with a delay. I’m still looking for that Hen’s Tooth. It’s been modified to squirt water on FC windshields! Anyone have a...

Re: Rampside Door Closure Mechanism
Granted, a deluxe Rampside never had the door panels, but that should not be the problem as long as the add-on panels are positioned correctly and other issues are OK. Door alignment, latch positioning, mis-positioning of the panels, stiffer weatherstrip, and panels that have slightly too much padd...
