Re: Belt retention?

This was mentioned briefly in a prior post -- check the pulleys for rust. I've never thrown or broken a belt and I've been driving Corvairs since 1966. With the proper belt, proper alignment, proper adjustment, and good bearings they'll stay on for ordinary street driving. Autocross or track days ma...

Re: Lack of Power after Hard Down Shift

Your term "hard downshift" sounds like you may have over-revved the engine. If so, you may have broken something. Start with a compression test as previously suggested.

Re: Seat belts

I'm planning to use the Schroth Autocontrol harnesses in my '65 restomod. It has a lockable intertia reel. Interestingly, my objective for the restomod is a GT car in the spirit of the GTV. The '73 Nova and '69 Vair have the factory standard separate harness belt which is a pain to buckle as well as...

Re: Seat belts

The biggest problem with the non-retractable harnesses is that when adjusted properly, you can't reach stuff on the dash (I have them on my '73 Nova and '69 Corvair).

Re: What other car?

73/74 Novas are affordable to buy, but a wee bit expensive to drive if you have the 350 V8. Parts are available, although not as many specialty parts are being reproduced as the earlier models. Horsepower is down from earlier levels due to smog equipment and lower compression, but the V8 torque and ...

Re: Corvair of the Month May 2010

Here's something a little different. My '66 convertible wasn't too popular in last week's contest, so here is my wife's '65 coupe (Mr. Redd) in the middle of its restoration. I bought it for her in 1966 as our second car. She was a stay at home mom, so this was her freedom machine (no more dropping ...

I used Classic Instruments. Not cheap, but very nice products.

Re: Hi all - My 1969 is one of the last 1000 built

Welcome! Here is my '69 -- I ordered it in October '68 and checked all of the important boxes (and some not so important boxes). It currently has 25K miles.

Re: corbeau seats

I got mine from Gary Funkhouser at VMS Motorsports in Dayton, Ohio (he also built my engine). Gary has since sold the business and retired, but the Corvair Performance Workshop used to be held at his place. He had them dropped shipped to me. Check some dealers to see if they can beat the Corbeau lis...

Re: corbeau seats

I've installed Corbeau LG-1 seats in a LM and it was definitely a cake walk with Corbeau's Corvair specific mounts. I plan to purchase matching fabric from Corbeau and upholster the rear seat to match.

Re: Corvair History and information

Too bad Corsa doesn't put this type of information on a well-indexed, easy to use website. I think it would help attact new members and new Corvair owners.

Re: Favorite Year

Our first Corvair was a 1965 Monza coupe that I bought used in 1966 as a present for my wife who was a stay-at-home-mom (see didn't stay at home much after she got the Corvair). It was sold in 1968 to buy a new 1969. The '69 was a POS, but we still have it. The '65 was sadly missed, but came back ho...
