Re: 65 4-door "sports car" project

Fuel pump's been in for about 3 weeks now, seems to be going well so far. The car used to stutter if I cruised in 2nd then tried to quickly accelerate, now it's fine. More blocking, priming, fixing dents, dings, and chips. Almost there, wherever "there" is. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_UbjT-TAHQzo/TGHgLVpi...

Re: Single 4 barrel on a 140

What's with this manifold? The smaller runners are isolated primaries maybe, like the old Offy V8 manifolds?

Re: The Hunt For a viable Vair

Right on, then. Good luck! I'd go the beater route as well and learn as you go fixing pieces here and there. The car is a good candidate for such a project. Im happy with a beater lol as long as it gets me to pint a to point b.The body is pretty traight no dents in it at all.just a few holes i can f...

Re: The Hunt For a viable Vair

When you started this thread you were willing to pay at least $1500, is that right? $500 into this car and you're looking at unbelievable amounts of labor. I don't know your skill level and experience with body repair but if all you've got is $500 and lots of tools and time or a body shop connection...

Re: Fuel pump shaft broken off in engine!?

Looks like the retaining bolt might've been tightened with a wrench at one time. Finger tight only, tighten the nut not the bolt.

Re: LED Exterior Lighting

I bought a set of Dakota Digital LED Taillights, the set I bought is for 1969 Camaro (has two per side/ I have two 1965 Corsa's so it works!). The method of fitting is very well made, replaces the light socket with a billet machined light socket with LED's installed. They are outstanding and becaus...

Re: 65 4-door "sports car" project

Thanks. I'll give the cheap unit a shot, been itching to drive the car for 2 weeks now. I've only had it less than a month until I noticed the leak and yeah it's pretty bad. I did check the oil and it doesn't smell like gas. What really sucks is my driveway is slanted and the fuel was gravity feedin...

Re: Noob engine question

The best one that we have found is a '66 that has an empty space where the engine should be. . Did you look in the back? lol In a hurry? Corvairs aren't that expensive, and you could be well ahead of the game if you wait for the right deal on a complete running car. I'm glad I did. I used to have a...

Re: 65 4-door "sports car" project

Is there a ready source for the fuel pump diaphragm material? The local store has 3 mechanicals to choose from, Airtex ($40), some brand I forgot ($80), and Bosch ($120). I know the Airtex electric pump is a popular swap for Corvairs, but how well do their mechanicals fare? Not sure if I want to cha...

Re: Single 4 barrel on a 140

It works well as is. Just don't over carb the thing. Bog?? Dividers and Restrictors? No. Buy one, put on the right size 4 barrel, and run it. Don't over think it. Mine ran fine after install. I do not recall "bog" to amount to anything. Just on the first 2-3 minutes of a near freezing day, you coul...

Re: Single 4 barrel on a 140

All my (car hobby) life I've been used to Carters and Holleys and would like to try the center-mount someday. Problem is all I have stashed away are 650cfm and higher rated carbs. I can see how the long runners can cause a bog and you'd have to use some pretty hefty squirters to make up for it. Some...

Re: My build 1965 Coupe 140/4spd

Let us know if you find any problems with the U-Seal in the inland heat. I put a few sheets in my engine compartment to see how they hold up in that environment. If it holds up I'll put it under the lid itself.

How much different is the interior noise after putting it under the carpet?

Exhaust

The stock mufflers were rubbing the tire. Mel and I decided to rotate the pipe to clear the tire but the muffler would bang against the floor at idle. "Good enough until the headers come in" I figured, but I figured wrong. So off to Craigslist to look for mufflers, and came across some used Borlas. ...

65 4-door "sports car" project

Might as well start a thread, maybe even help myself remember what I've done to the car. I bought this car through Mel Raven at Vairmart. The owner, a long time customer of Mel, had passed away Sept 2009 and his two cars were being sold off by the family. Mel drove them down to San Jose from SSF and...

These are "old" pics (I've only had the car 2 weeks) so they aren't very specific, hope they help you some. http://lh4.ggpht.com/_UbjT-TAHQzo/TB6dH72CxpI/AAAAAAAABs8/qGE1nbxUFn0/s640/CIMG0607.JPG http://lh4.ggpht.com/_UbjT-TAHQzo/TB6d4_H64uI/AAAAAAAABtQ/vXHV6PtNHJQ/s640/CIMG0630.JPG The big cable go...
