Re: Making my Corvair UK road legal

Thanks for the tip off. It's always useful to have feedback from other owners who have been there and done that. I'll go for the rubber bush. If I can cure the steering dead zone then I'll put quick steering on the Xmas wish list. At the moment I just want her running to the best of her abilities an...

Re: Making my Corvair UK road legal

Thanks Brad, and yes, a heater/defroster will come in very handy indeed for UK weather!

Thanks to all for your help whilst I find my feet. I must admit that the Corvair was an impulse buy based on her good looks!

Re: Making my Corvair UK road legal

Fair one, it wasn't doing much anyway and all of those electrical circuits work on mine. The only thing that doesn't is the heater.

Re: Making my Corvair UK road legal

Great, thanks guys! I will wait until I have her road registered and then get her up on my friend's four poster so I'll be able to check all of the steering and suspension bushes and most likely replace with nylon as they tend to be fit and forget these days. The steering is doing exactly as you men...

Re: Making my Corvair UK road legal

Well, I took the Corvair for an MOT test on Saturday. The garage I use is a 20 minute drive away and it was strange to drive her again after such an absence, and for longer than I'd taken her on the original test drive. She performed well though and soon enough we were there. After exhausting testin...

Re: Making my Corvair UK road legal

Thanks for the advice guys and plenty for me to check.

And yes, driving a LHD car stateside was confusing enough so over here will be even more so, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it!

Hopefully an MOT Saturday week, we shall see...

Re: Making my Corvair UK road legal

My recovery man tells me that she drove onto the trailer at the docks and the missus says she drove it off the trailer and onto the driveway, yet when I got home she wouldn't start, no warning lights or anything. :dontknow: Is there a nack to starting these? Presume in neutral with handbrake on but ...

Re: Making my Corvair UK road legal

That is interesting indeed, I shall look at mine when it arrives. Speaking with my friendly vehicle inspector he tells me I should be ok and better still, if I can prove that the car did not have windshield washers fitted at the factory then I can't fail the test on them being missing. Thanks to hel...

Re: Making my Corvair UK road legal

Stop the press! Have discovered that if my car was first used before 1st September 1965 then it's ok to keep the turn signal/brake arrangement stock. Trouble is mine is a Vermont car and in the day there were no title documents issued in the New England states. Is there any way of finding out when s...

Re: Making my Corvair UK road legal

Thanks for that, I will look out for the RHD headlamps. Think fuses/relays the way to go then. Wiring is a black art for me but I know people in the auto trade who can sort out for me as a nice private job... :tu:

Making my Corvair UK road legal

Hi all, My 65 Corvair convertible is due to arrive in the UK soon and I will have to work on her to pass an annual inspection test (MOT) so I can register her to be road legal. So, my questions are... What size are the headlamps? I need to change for similar units which dip to the other side of the ...
