Re: How do I remove stuck turbo exhaust housing?

I have an NOS downpipe I don't need, you can have that for shipping. I might have a pedestal as well, gotta go look. If I were you, I would take a cutoff wheel to that thing in a heartbeat and set it right. The parts aren't that expensive, and I can take care of the turbo for a few coins.

Re: How do I remove stuck turbo exhaust housing?

Send it to me, I'll help you out. Usually heat and penetrating oil are your best friends with stuck heat shields, but some just refuse to let go. I did one for a guy a number of years ago that looked like it was buried in the backyard for 40 years, I had to tell him he needed a new turbine wheel and...

Re: Badge engineering on a global scale

They are selling what people are looking to buy, can't fault them for that. I personally have next to no use for all the gizmos modern cars come with, they amount to a driving distraction and that's about it. I'll allow the computers to control the fuel injection and cruise control, but beyond that ...

Re: Turbo Muffler Options

On turbo engines I like those straight thru bullet style mufflers. You can find them real cheap on eBay, and because you have a turbo you don't need to kill much noise for it to sound good. https://www.ebay.com/itm/161920306378 I put one like that on my VW Beetle, which has an air cooled 1915 turbo ...

Re: Valve cover tube

Crankcase evac? Some people put a vent on the valve cover and connected that to a one way valve in the exhaust collector to draw out fumes, but normally you only see it on race engines.

Re: Please Help! 63 Turbo just won't run!

I don't believe he has ever expressed a great deal of love for the Carter YH carburetor! None whatsoever. When I saw an old picture of a Vette with three of them, I nearly puked. http://www.carbkitsource.com/carbs/images/carbsnapshots/CarterYH-54Corvette-400.jpg I understand there have been a few t...

Re: Please Help! 63 Turbo just won't run!

It's either spark or fuel since you have compression, so process of elimination. Assuming the ignition is fine since it was checked multiple times, I blame the stupid YH carb. I had nothing but troubles with that damn thing, never ran how I wanted it to. When it wasn't flooding out or generally runn...

Re: 140HP Vapor Locking?

My 180 killed a coil once, same exact symptoms you have. Moved the coil off the hot engine away from the heat, never happened again.

Re: Turbo---180 hp vs. 150 hp

You can convert the turbo to a 180 cold side and use a 65-66 carb, it'll be a 180 at that point for all intents and purposes aside from the fact that it will spool a lot better because of the smaller turbine. PM me if you need turbo work done.

Re: Carter YH carburetor

Another broke YH, imagine that. lol

Fix: convert to electric pump and return style regulator, set to 1.5 lbs not higher then slightly lower the float level. I hate the YH, it never ever worked right for me.

Marvel Mystery Oil FTW! Put some in each cylinder and see what happens, that stuff is liquid gold for freeing stuck rings.

Re: Ignition timing range ?

Easiest way to think about it: mechanical advance works with engine speed, and is independent of what the manifold pressure/vacuum is doing. Boost retard/vac advance could care less what engine speed is, it takes it's cues from the manifold signal. They both work together to make sure the engine has...
