Re: How do I install seatbelts in front?

Thanks for the knowledge Dave. I installed my own rear seatbelts but my car had fronts and I've never had the carpet out. Front belts were mandated by 66, right? 01/01/65. You shouldn't have to entirely remove the front carpet. Remove the door sills and you should be able to find the holes for the ...

Re: How do I install seatbelts in front?

There are four threaded holes. The outboard belts bolt to threaded holes in the rocker panels. In board belts bolt to threaded holes near the center of the car. In board belts are supposed to crisscross.

Re: Electric Fuel Pump & OP Safety Installation

In a crash, if the engine doesn't die from the collision then the fuel never gets cut off? Seems not as good as an inertia switch for crash safety but still better than nothing. So, how is that any different than having a mechanical fuel pump? There is no cutoff mechanism in a stock Corvair if you'...

Re: Electric Fuel Pump & OP Safety Installation

There is also an rpm sensing safety switch that cuts off the fuel pump when rpms go to zero. It has a 3 second delay in the cutoff when the ignition is first turned on. It's sold by American Pi (Ray Sedman).

Re: Finally on it's way!

Mart, I live in Minnesota and there is no state inspection for anything. I have seen cars with front brake rotors worn completely through to the vents and pads worn halfway through the steel backing plate. On balance, though, cars are here are in pretty decent condition mechanically. The bodies can ...

Re: Finally on it's way!

State inspections are on a state-by-state basis and there are no federally mandated standards for those inspections. Many states don't have inspections and some are just an emissions check. The bottom line is that passing a state inspection means almost nothing -- except you can register the car in ...

Re: Speaker size? And Question on factory rear speaker?

I have a stock '69 rear speaker. I have no idea if it's the same as the '65, but probably is. I'd be happy to post a picture if that would help.

Re: Shifter base shims

The shifter base is intended to be able to move a bit fore and aft (hence the slotted holes in the shims), but it shouldn't feel loose. Note that there are "shoulders" on the shifter base that limit how far you can tighten the nuts holding the base in place. The number of shims required for a specif...

Re: Is my Corvair rare?

The statement that only 6 Corvairs were produced with power top and ac is bogus (seller's puffery). I have one (with remote mirror). The convertibles tended to be optioned up quite a bit, so ac and power top was likely fairly common.
