Re: 63 Monza 900 - Oil From Dipstick?

I would never open up an engine only for a re-ring job because you'll soon say "while it's apart I should have the heads done, and re-seal this and that, and check this...". Before you know it you have a whole rebuild going on (which it might need anyway). You can take shortcuts and only re-ring but...

Re: Replace head gasket and o rings on one side only.?

Head gaskets? No. O-rings? Maybe. How old are they? Since they are not hard to change when the engine is in the car and they are not leaking now, I would leave them alone if it were me. I usually don't mess with things that don't need messed with. I don't like tempting fate when I loosen or tighten ...

Re: Cylinder #2 no compression

As I as pouring the spent oil I noticed the dreaded shimmers of metal. Maybe they don't show in the photo but that looks like big chunks of assorted dirt in the photo, not shimmering bearing material floating suspend in the oil. When you look at the oil does it look like really fine metallic paint?

Re: What Is THIS?

I'll take it for $10 and put it with my spare A/C stuff. Shipping would be to 85233 Gilbert AZ. Can you put it in a USPS flat rate bubble envelope maybe? Whatever you think is best. PM me the total if you want.

Who needs it?
I don't "need" it but don't want to see A/C bits disappearing either. What do you want for it? I'm guessing you don't have any of the other brackets or mounts?

Re: Gas tank removal, Dave motto head.

I just pulled the tank on my 66 Corsa to replace the fill tube connector and vent hoses that lasted about 5 years. Arggg!! Sway bar has to come out but not the crossmember. Pay close attention now before you pull it and take a few photos to understand the best way to orient the clamps because you wi...

Re: Cylinder #2 no compression

I'll be curious to learn how #2 can have an acceptable 15% leak-down test and yet a zero PSI compression test. Doesn't seem possible but maybe the lifters are pumping up (causing a valve to remain open) when turning the engine over fast with the starter but the lifters stay leaked down when slowly r...

Re: Cylinder #2 no compression

Also since I didn't see any changes with the right bank and the same procedure was used to assemble both sides it could just be the head. Probably the last thing I would suspect is the head being at fault. If the engine was running fine after you freshened it up and then you lost compression in #2 ...

Re: Cylinder #2 no compression

Could be a sticky or seized valve stem not allowing the valve to fully close. As I mentioned above, pulling the valve cover is a pretty easy way to check for cracked rockers, dislocated rockers, rocker nuts that have backed out, pushrods bent or popped out of position and also check for valve stem m...

Re: A6 to Sanden

Except for a few concours cars nobody is interested in the old Frigidaire compressor now. Be aware the Corvair compressor was unique, not a regular A6 unit. If you have the 140HP A6 brackets you might find a buyer as they were different vs. the other Corvair engines and are not common. He has a 65 ...

Re: Cylinder #2 no compression

Don't worry about low compression numbers on a back-up engine when one cylinder has clearly signed off. Pull the valve cover on that side and check the rocker arms and pushrods. Could be a failure there and a relatively easy fix.

Re: Block Fan Shroud Outlet?

So now the heater blower just sucks air & road grit from underneath the car and blow forward? Seems like some opportunistic person would have come up with a hose & filter by now to keep the big chunks out. Well... the factory engineers had a solution for that but you just took it off. :( You can ei...
