Re: Loose antenna base
I plugged the empty antenna hole on my 65 with a chrome plug that I found at a True Value hardware store. Fits perfect.

Re: Grease Those Carb Gaskets
Sometimes a nice thin coat of anti-seize works great on stuff that you might have to pull apart later.

Re: Stiff steering
There must be something up with the nylon bushing vs the stock rubber bushing. The nylon bushing I removed was not really deformed and is essentially the only change made. I think the idler arm I replaced was just fine. One weird thing I noticed was that the castle nut[s] I got from the hardware sto...

Stiff steering
My 65 Corvair steering became progressively stiff to the point where the steering wheel was under a slight tension from a "neutral" position, would want to fight against turning the wheel even a small amount. I pulled the drag link because of a suspicion with regard to a nylon pitman arm b...

E brake concerns
The E brake lever on my 65 Corvair seems to be close to the limit of its travel and the adjustment underneath is maxed out. Apparently, the cable can stretch over time, so I had better do something soon. Has anyone ever had an instance where the cable has snapped, and the car has rolled away? The le...

Re: Fuel pump leak
I like my electric fuel pumps in my 2 1965 110 engine Corvairs a lot. Less wear on the starter as they fill the bowls right now, so you get a pump shot sooner. Especially if the car has been sitting for a time. They are both Clark Corvair pumps, it looks like I installed one 3\21 and the other on 2\...

Re: Dual Exhaust Hangers
That piece with your green checkmark is so simple that you could just measure bolt hole to bolt hole and freehand a template. I used that exact piece for the dual exhaust on my 64 with Flow master 40 series mufflers and they fit great\perfect. :tu: You don't want mufflers supported by the body anywa...

Heater fan
This afternoon I replaced the heater blower motor with the HI speed version from Clarks. I have done this job in both of my 65 Corvairs but I think this 64 Corvair was a little tougher. Looks like only one way out and one way in because of very tight quarters, I did jack up that side so as to let th...

Re: New Choke Rod Install
I did get the rod into the coil without removing that coil but it was tricky and a royal pain. It can be done if you want to spend the time to do it that way. Much easier to just back the rivet out, if it is still there, if I remember right someone had hammered some sort of stud or nail into the hea...

Re: Highway RPM's
I have been driving my 64 Corvair on the 4-lane highway every morning and night going back and forth to work and I typically see around 3500 RPM after I let the oil temp. reach about 180 degrees F. or better. When I glance at the GPS it shows around 68-70 MPH. 25 miles one way. Stock wheel\tire setu...

Re: Longer Wheel Studs
After I installed Torque-thrust Ds on my 65 Corvair I found nice black lug nuts on Ebay that reach further back into this thicker wheel. They have a longer "shank".

That doesn't mean the cable is not possibly broken. Pull the cable off of the speedo and let it hang there and drive the car and see if it spins.

Re: Vacuum canister
As the originator of this post, I can report that after checking things out a little more thoroughly everything is working as intended. Looks like that Oreilly auto parts can is working just fine. No vacuum advance at idle.
