Re: Turn signals/brake lights
Get rid of all of that cut up, beat up, mis-handled, molested, wasted wiring harness[s] and in so doing save yourself a good deal of grief. Clarks catalog a good place to start. Stuff like that has been known to reduce a car to a burned-out smoking hulk.

Re: electric power steering
No fast steering components on this Corvair. Tire PSI is 30 in the back and 25 up front. This was only an isolated parking event of little to no consequence, I was just wondering if it has been done or will be done in the future.

electric power steering
I have a 1970 Cuda which I've wanted to put power steering on for years but don't quite drive enough to buy a kit or gather all of the components to make it happen just yet, but I will someday, all I need is a spark. Now I see that the aftermarket has come out with electric power steering conversion...

Re: Seized Upper Head Stud Nut Removal. Modified Vise Grips?
I've been a big fan of anti-seize for decades and use it on virtually everything and yes that includes head studs. Also works well to smear just a bit on the inside of any hoses that you install. I like to use Vaseline for electrical componentry. Sure makes things come back apart easy years later an...

Re: Fuel dribbling from cluster arms
The little plug that I had placed around March looks to have degraded to the point where I started to get fuel dribbling from the cluster arms again. I've pulled this carb out of service and it looks like u would have to find a plug of different material to make it last. I'm not quite so sure this w...

Re: Disk Brakes on LMs
I had a minor brake issue in my 65 Corvair recently so I trolled around a bit on Corvair brakes which included the Larry Claypool video. I think something was said about the Corvair brake system in my 65 are actually Chevelle brakes. I also thought something was said about Corvairs being "over ...

Re: 1965 rear wheel bearing squealing
I had to wait on that pre-bent brake line I needed from Clark's which I got on Friday. This weekend I installed it and bled the rear cylinders, but I could not get a decent brake pedal. Bled the brakes twice with a minor road trip in between. I am thinking what am I missing here? So, I cranked up th...

Re: 1965 rear wheel bearing squealing
"Corvair Adventures" probably would prove to be an interesting category. There were most likely all kinds of peril occurred in and around Corvairs back through the years.

Re: 1965 rear wheel bearing squealing
:emfront: I remember in the summer of 1977 a buddy and I were between our junior and senior year of high school and we road tripped my 1964 Corvair to Estes Park Colorado from Lincoln Nebraska. Never stayed in a motel, we always found a place to pitch our 2-man pup tents. Got bored in Estes Park qui...

Re: 1965 rear wheel bearing squealing
Thats exactly the type of "adventure" I am trying to avoid. Your classic car sitting on the side of the road a long way from help with a seized wheel bearing kind of ruins the trip. I have had other numerus automotive adventures but most I have been able to correct in relatively short orde...

Re: 1965 rear wheel bearing squealing
Well, that was kind of a tough little job. I knew it would be when you're hacking your way through many years [decades?] of rust\corrosion\seized assemblies. I got as far as I can go yesterday because I had a brake hard line twist apart but that's minor. Also replaced all 4 U-joints while I was ther...

1965 rear wheel bearing squealing
Every once in a while lately, I hear a nasty 1 second squeal from back there somewhere so tonight I lifted each rear wheel independently and sure enough right wheel bearing way loose. I did the rear wheel bearings on my 64 but this 65 is a little different. I have read up on the threads beforehand a...

Re: cylinder head removal
So far-so good. I ended up having to adjust valves running, kind of wished I had done it that way the first time. That would saved me some minor tear-down. The engine just didn't have any pulling power the first time out despite having a good clean stable idle. Valve lash probably just a little too ...

Re: cylinder head removal
I think 1\2 in from clatter is about what I ended up with. I experimented around some with adjustments and in so doing the oil temp. came up to 140 or so and maybe higher before I got done. If I went in too far, I could hear when the engine started too not quite like it. I tried to strike a balance ...

Re: cylinder head removal
Yes, that would be kind of tight quarters, I've always had pretty good luck with Helicoil use. I remember the first time I used a Helicoil on a disabled riding lawnmower [vintage even then] I bought for about 150 dollars around 1982. Still have it. I followed the factory torque down sequence ...

Re: cylinder head removal
I'm burning my floater vacation time for the holidays, so I used some of it to jump all over Corvair repair. I did get a baffle from my Corvair contact, he just gave one to me free! I thought I might have to fight it a bit on install but it just clicked right up in there. I didn't have any problem f...
