Re: Vacuum canister
I have the vacuum line on the correct port but now I'm wondering if my idle speed is too high as I seem to like the idle at about 1000 RPM. I will knock the idle down and see what happens. Seems to run just fine the way it is right now.

Re: Speedo cable drama
I disconnected both cables and let them hang there to ascertain whether it was speedo or cable as I drove the car. On the one car the cable wasn't moving but on the other car the cable was spinning however I was able to stop it with my fingers. Much tougher and more expensive to replace speedo than ...

Speedo cable drama
I had the speedometer cables go out on both of my 2 1965 Corvairs not too long after the other! Ordered 2 from Clarks [the improved version] and installed both this week. Luckly all bolts backed out ok, and got a good shot of Anti seize going back in. I had to ream the hub hole with a drill bit to c...

Re: Vacuum canister
I wanted to fix this problem quickly, so I bought a new canister from Oreilly auto. It pulls a bit of advance at idle as it's probably not correct for Corvair but I compensated for it at the distributor. Probably should get the correct one from Clarks. ![dontknow :dontknow:](./images/smilies/dontknow.gif)

Vacuum canister
Coming home from a 2-hour road trip in my 65 Corvair 110\PG I cut the throttle coming into this small town and all of a sudden, the engine went sour back there. Would not run very well down low so I pulled into a car wash to look it over but didn't see anything. After I got home, I put a Mityvac on ...

Speedo malfunction
The speedo needle in my 65 started to bounce around and then after a while quit completely. I pulled the cable off and let it hang there for a drive and it was turning but I can stop it with my fingers so how much of a pain is it to put one of Clarks reproduction cables in? I don't remember ever hav...

Re: 1966 Monza front speaker
I did a new front speaker and a "retro" radio in my 64. It's no big deal to remove the radio and will make speaker installation much easier. I always seem to like to take one or both front seats out to do under dash work.

I had an 8-track in my 64 Corvair in high school. Cassette tapes didn't appear until the early 80s I think.

Re: Fiber optic camera
I've got one that I have used to look under the fan shroud-works great. I've always called it a mechanics inspection camera. Got it at Oreilly's I think.

Re: 140 dual exhaust
Yes, it sure looks like muffler heat shields on both sides is a good idea to keep from roasting your valve covers. Clarks has reproduced both heat shields. If you are replicating the stock exhaust system that is all well and good, but I got a pair of Flowmaster 40 series copies and had my muffler sh...

Windshield sunshade
It's getting hot out there. There's an excellent sunshade I found at Walmart that fits a Corvair windshield almost perfectly. Its for a Jeep Wrangler, if I remember right, it may be a Mopar licensed product. It's a thick heavy accordion board style sunshade that fits great on the relatively small Co...

Re: How do I select spark plugs for a 1964 Monza convertible?
An easy/excellent way to start a spark plug into a cylinder head [especially on a shrouded Corvair engine] is to cut a piece of 3/8 inch fuel to 6 inches or so and stick the end of the plug in it. Old mechanics trick that's been around for decades at least. ![shhh :shhh:](./images/smilies/shhh.gif)

Wouldn't go near it. I bought a door hinge from Clarks for my 65-works great. U might also check Corvair Ranch.

Re: Anti-sieze Effects
Well, I've used some form of anti-seize on virtually everything for some 45 years and haven't had a problem with it yet. Looks like I'll keep using it the same as it ever was. ![guitar :guitar:](./images/smilies/guitarred.gif)

Re: Does anyone have any experience with these thermostats
I have had a good experience with these thermostats. My records say I installed a pair on my yellow 65 on 2\21. On my white 65 it looks like I installed right side on 11\21 and left side on 9\22. They have worked just fine ever since. I still have a pair of the original style bellows installed on my...

4-wheel alignment
I just finished installing 2 new lower ball joints in my 65 Corvair which now is going back to an alignment shop run by a guy who has done many Corvairs. I had it in prior for an "analysis". I also replaced the bushing on one of the control rods-aka adjusting strut-aka stabilizing rod. The...
