Re: Baptism by fire... Electric fuel pump install.

Al's information is spot on. I did one variation on that by not including the oil pressure safety switch. I figured if the inertial switch was good enough for some factory installs I was OK with just that. The thing with the oil pressure switch is the wiring needs to run the length of the car wherea...

Re: Tire pressure

The easy recommendation with radials is 22 front, 32 rear and always 10 PSI. More in the rear than the front. Generally that 22/32 is good for most people. If you like to push the car a bit harder, especially in turns you can experiment with pressures and see what feels best to you. I landed at 23 a...

Re: New member, New owner

Welcome! Nice to have another member that feels comfortable with electrical issues. My previous classic was an MGB and I agree GM electrical systems are a lot easier to sort out.

Re: LM Front Speaker Replacement options?

The LM Corvairs use pretty much the same speaker as its peers in the Chevy lineup from that era. Do you want a speaker for the original AM or AM/FM radio or are you asking for a modern stereo in the car? For the modern stereo there are a number of sources for dual speakers in the same sized assembly...

Re: New Corvair Owner - Hello!

Welcome and good luck sorting things out. Like any car that has sat for a while usually the fuel system and brake system require the most attention to make them safe and reliable. Corvairs have another long term storage risk, animals building nests inside the cooling shrouds. At a minimum I would us...

Re: New Member, New Corvair Owner

Not sure I’m understanding the whole initial post correctly. 65 and up have 2 keys; hex key for doors and ignition, round / oval for trunk and glove box. If you are unable to turn the trunk key, the glove box should have the same lock for getting a key made. If you can turn the trunk key then someth...

Re: Leaky Leaky

How much actually ends up on the floor? My transaxle looks a lot worse than that but very few drips make it to the floor (actually the cardboard I keep under the rear of the car). And I’ve checked my levels a few times and they don’t move enough to be “measured”. Remember new cars in the showroom in...

Re: Hello to all

Welcome, sounds like you have enjoyed cars so far in your life. I was also born in 56, first car was a Corvair and after a 40+ year gap I am enjoying my 2nd.

Re: It is a Corvair after all.

You are brave not having cardboard underneath it. I’ve slowed mine to barely leaking but still marks its territory. Believe mine is somewhere in that rear cover area since the rest of the engine is dry.

Where are you located? I know of an individual in NJ that is selling a set. I bought my current wheels from him and he is good to deal with.

Re: 1965 Corsa Coupe

That pan looks about like mine did when I pulled it off at 70K miles and little mileage for the previous 30 some years. You’ll notice the drain hole isn’t at the bottom of the pan so not surprising sludge collects there.

Re: Melting wires, simple question

I ment to send pictures but I forgot to get them. It's quite a sight. It appears it might be one wire but I'll get you guys some pics. I have a multi meter, but like with so many guys it's intimidating. So it's not my strong suit. But I will persevere and trace down the problem. I get the intimidat...

I always position so with window closed the handle is straight up. Figure closed is a good reference and straight up is out of the way

Re: shocks and springs 65 Corsa

Think you’re making good choices, just make sure the front springs don’t have any helpers. I was going to do the same but discovered my left front had helpers in it.

Re: shocks and springs 65 Corsa

I did Clark’s standard convertible springs and gas charged shocks all around on my 66 Corsa Convertible. I love the ride and handling, even on washboard highways. I’m running 14x7 wheels with 215/60 R14 tires. I really push the car in turns and it just sticks. Attached photo is how it sits when the ...

Re: Instrument cluster lighting

Just went through this with a friends 64, in his case it was insufficient ground for the dash lights only, turn signals and high beam indicator worked fine. In his case the car had been completely repainted and there just wasn’t good contact from body to instrument panel hood to instrument panel. We...
