Re: Tube or tubeless tires
Clean up the hole the stem goes in, the original wheels hold air fine with tubeless tires. Even in the 50’s cars were using tubeless tires. Inner tubes bring their own problems so don’t think that will be an easy solution.

Re: 1966 Corsa Convertible
I need to put a pair of gloves in my trunk - when I put the spare belt back in, was a bit warm trying the get the belt tensioned. I just saw the details a few days ago about the Corvair Ranch open house in May, we're planning to attend. I need to call or send an email and see if they will pull some...

Re: ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP CONVERSION IDEAS & SUGGESTIONS
I went the inertial switch route because I felt it was adequate and simpler to install. I installed my Clark’s pump up front behind the body support and piped it up with brass / bronze fittings from the local plumbing store. I also put in a hidden kill switch for those times I power the car in the A...

Re: Raising seat height
I think it depends on how much you want to raise it. My upholsterer tends to weave reinforcement in the springs when he rebuilds a classic seat. So between his reinforcement and a little extra padding he added my seats were raised an inch or so and more comfortable as well. Then my seat extenders ra...

Re: which transaxle oil to use
Others will likely chime in but it needs to be GL4 spec, not GL5. GL5 will chemically damage the synchronizers in the transmission. In this situation I don’t think the viscosity is as big a deal, modern oils blow away anything available in the 60’s. 80W/90 should be fine. FYI, I always do a slow lap...

Re: 1966 Corsa Convertible
Bummer on the belt but good you recognized what was happening and had a spare to put on. I just got some gates belts as spares but luckily still running the one that came on the car.
Hopefully see you in Gettysburg in May.

Re: 1965 Corsa Coupe
You’ll probably want to take off the rear grill for better access to the shrouds. I usually just remove the lower shrouds and leave the doors and housings in place which means disconnecting / reconnecting the thermostat push rods with just a little access (hence the recommendation of removing the re...

Re: Loose Side Mirror Ball and Socket
An easy fix if you don’t move it often is find the right position and glue it there with a little super glue, some people recommend clear nail polish, both work for quite a while. Does a good job of holding it until it gets bumped or you need to move it. I ran that way for a while but ended up buyin...

Re: New Wheel Setup vs. Stock
My experience when looking for wheels is that it is harder to get wheels with enough backspacing to pull the tire into the ideal centerline. So I doubt you will ever need spacers with replacement wheels. I’m running 215/60 R14s on 14x7 wheels with 4 1/4” backspacing and like how they fill the wheel ...

Re: Fast XR700 E-Ignition Questions
Sorry, this thread got a bit long to read through it all. The bracket kit you need for the Corvair’s distributor is; XR700/XR3000 Installation Kit For Domestic 4, 6 And 8 Cylinder Applications SKU: 700-2226 It was an easy install with that kit. It looks like they are out of stock again, I had to wai...

Welcome! Glad you are already enjoying it. I’m about 3 years in after a 40+ year break from owning one. My wife and I get out often when the weather cooperates. These cars do draw a lot of attention.

Re: Aluminum or stamped steel oil pan?
I split one wide-open crossing a railroad track on a major street. Ouch. That there reinforcement ring sounds like the ticket. I'll take a look-see in the Clarks catalog. Thanks! I did the reinforcement ring and a new cork + rubber gasket from Clark’s this past summer, so far so good. The reinforce...

Re: Lack of "Chevrolet" emblems
For whatever reason I’ve been thinking about the same thing lately. On my 66 Corsa the only bow ties I’m aware of are on the front trim (trunk lock cover) and on the side view mirrors. I don’t believe the word Chevrolet is anywhere visible on the car. But then again Chevelles from that era only had ...
