Re: Heater Box Function
No Corvair ever came with a heat exchanger for cabin heating via engine waste heat. It is a direct air heater. You must keep the engine clean and well sealed. Some early model Corvairs had gas heaters that did avoid the stink problem. I'm in Phoenix so I don't have to worry about heat or defrosters...

Re: Heater Box Function
The attached shop manual and assembly manual sections, and the Chevrolet Service Bulletin will provide you with a description of the system and proper maintenance techniques to avoid heater and defroster SMOG in the passenger compartment... Those are helpful docs, thanks! The diagnosis checklist an...

Heater Box Function
Regarding my '66 Monza 110, anyone have any information on how the heater box functions? Does it move unfiltered air collected from the engine heat shrouds to passengers, or is there a heat exchanger of some sort? I remember in a previous '66 500 of mine that when I turned the heater on, the cab wou...

Re: Air flow out of rear outlet flaps
Thanks, guys. The right side door doesn't open as far as the left, but I'm not sure if it's because there isn't the same amount of heat flow or because something is sticking. Regarding the fresh air hose, I blocked that port off since I don't have the hose for it right now. I may end up pulling the ...

Air flow out of rear outlet flaps
I noticed yesterday that the airflow out of the bellows controlled rear outlet doors on my '66 monza 110 is noticeably different between the passenger side and the drivers side. The drivers side seems to have more airflow through it. Is that to be expected?

Re: Shipped car to Utah from Virginia and now runs terrible
I had a *very* similar problem just recently! Transported a '66 Monza from Seattle, WA area to SLC (welcome to SLC by the way!). In Seattle the car ran great at a nice idle, when I got to Utah and took it off the dolly, it started with a high idle, I got it on the interstate, and it died after ~15mi...

Re: what is the best fuel to use?
Thanks! I'll probably run non-ethanol primarily with Marvel Mystery Oil on occasion then. I like to at least think it's helpful with carbs.

Re: what is the best fuel to use?
This was really helpful! Answered nearly all my questions about fuel. The guy I bought my Corvair from recently had been using and said to use the lead additive. I'd rather not.
What about non-ethanol fuel? Would that be better to run than E10/ E15 fuels?

About two weeks ago I purchased a Monza with a powerglide and 110... and I have zero experience with that transmission. I haven't actually driven it much since the purchase except ~20mi on the interstate, and it died on me. (Not sure why yet, haven't had time to dedicate, I think maybe vapor lock? R...

Re: LM vs. EM Debate.
I voted and... I was surprised! EM's in the lead? I'm pretty biased toward the LM's, I guess, since the '66 was the first one that I ever saw... and the first one that I ever saw, I bought! :)

New to the forum
Hi, all, I've been enjoying reading through some of the forum material lately and thought I'd join up! I first fell in love with the Corvair when I saw my first one back in ~2000. Just driving along and there it was, forsaken and forlorn in a guys side yard, ugly black and orange "For Sale"...
